2014 Player Capsule: MarShon Brooks

BY THE NUMBERS:

23: 23: Points dropped vs. SAC on Feb. 28, when he made 9 of 13 FG's and 3-of-3 triples.

57.9: Percentage of three-pointers converted; Brooks hit 11 of his 19 attempts in 18 games.

228: Total minutes played for the Lakers, which translates to just under five full games.

SEASON SUMMARY:

After averaging 20 minutes of playing time per game in his first nine games as a Laker, Brooks dropped out of the rotation as fellow wings like Xavier Henry and Nick Young returned from injury. Brooks failed to play double-digit minutes in any of the remaining 19 games, scoring no more than seven points in the season finale at San Antonio. The Providence product showed that he can score at an NBA level, as was his reputation after he averaged 12.6 points per game as a rookie in 2011-12, but Brooks was disappointed with a season in which he ended up playing limited minutes on three different teams (BOS, GSW, LAL). Brooks found himself unable to impact the game defensively or set teammates up for baskets (0.7 APG in 12.7 MPG), and struggled to find on-court chemistry amidst constantly changing lineups. A free agent heading into the offseason, Brooks hopes to catch on with a summer league team and subsequently get an invite to someone's training camp, aiming to prove that he can stick in the league.

IN HIS WORDS:

"I don't feel like I played bad. I thought I played pretty well but guys started coming back and I was the odd man out in terms of minutes. I started to lose a little confidence not knowing my role or not knowing when I'd get in the game."
