Laker Girl Blog - Blake
Hey Lakers fans!
I’m Blake and what a year it has been for me! It has been my good fortune this year to represent the Lakers organization as a first year member of the 2013-2014 Laker Girls squad, and it sure has been and honor to do so! When I made the squad, I knew it was a chance of a lifetime.
One of my favorite parts of this job is taking part in various charitable events. While I thought this was my chance to give back to the community, what I didn’t realize was how much the community gave back to me. I feel truly blessed. Each and every month as a Los Angeles Laker Girl has been fun and exciting……this month, however, has been particularly busy and action packed. One of my favorite charities took place during this month. It was our “Lakers Fit For Life Health Fair”. Several of us Laker Girls teamed up with Lakers players - Robert Sacre, Jodi Meeks, Jordan Farmar and Kendall Marshall. Oh and Mark Madsen too! (one of our Lakers coaches) We all teamed up and had the chance to interact with students from different schools. The kids participated and rotated through, four different game/exercise stations. They worked really hard and surely received good a work-out that day! We were trying to educate them about the importance of good nutrition and staying active. All and all, we just explained that they should concentrate now in choosing to live a healthy and active lifestyle. I must admit, It’s always fun to see how excited the kids get, when they are given the chance to meet our Lakers players. We all tried to make it a fun-filled day, and what the kids assumed was just playing games, was really in reality - a lesson on how exercise doesn’t have to be a chore, but that you can make it fun! It was a great time!
Sunday, April 13th marked the Lakers last home game of the season, which in my opinion came way too fast! To give the night a twist it was our “Fan Appreciation Night” where Lakers fans were given the chance to purchase Lakers memorabilia/items at fifty percent off in the TEAM LA store. As Laker Girls, we were given the opportunity to walk around on the main concourse in uniform, taking pictures, signing autographs and interacting with the NBA’s best fans! It never ceases to amaze me, the excitement and love the fans bestow on the Lakers Organization. To show our appreciation for these fans the night was full of many give-away items. One of my favorite parts of the game was throwing out free T-shirts to the Lakers fans at the game. While I will always remember this last home game of the season as one of my favorites, it also came with the unhappy realization that it would be my last time to dance with this talented, beautiful group of ladies this season on the Lakers home court. I am proud to call all my teammates my friends.
Thank you for taking the time to read my entry... keep cheering on our Los Angeles Lakers!!!
