I find great comfort in portraying my cultural heritage through my art; it allows me to stay connected to my roots and keeps home close to my heart. Creating these pieces brings me to a warm, reflective state of mind, reminding me that home can exist within myself. In this series, I honor my family, who embody the essence of home for me. By paying tribute to them through my work, I keep them close to my spirit. I choose to work with epoxy clay and cold wax for their transformative qualities, which grant me the freedom to explore textures and bring my creations to life.

What and who has inspired and enabled you to become an artist?

My art is inspired by my culture, roots, and nature's vibrant colors and textures. This connection to my culture serves as a way to keep my home close to me. Raised by my grandmother in Mexico, I grew up with a backyard filled with fruit trees, animals, and flowers. Painting nature brings me closer to her. My work highlights the strength and resilience of women, as words often fail me due to dyslexia. Painting serves as my therapeutic outlet, allowing me to express myself and navigate trauma.

Describe your art practice and how your journey in the art world has evolved over time?

My art practice is a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary Mexican art. Initially a fashion designer, I transitioned to fine arts, with oil paint as my primary medium. I now experiment with materials like epoxy clay, resins, and cold wax. My background in fashion design influences my attention to detail and use of textiles. Through my art, I explore empowerment and vulnerability, capturing contemporary Mexican culture as my main inspiration.

How would being recognized by the Lakers In the Paint program help your art career in a distinct way?

Being recognized by the Lakers in the Paint program would significantly boost my art career, allowing me to fully dedicate myself to my art without side jobs. This opportunity would enable me to explore my artistic potential and advance projects stalled by funding constraints.
