Riley spent five-and-a-half seasons in Los Angeles as a player during the 1970s, and 10 more as a coach in the 1980s. He won one championship as a member of the 1972 squad, playing off the bench behind Jerry West. Later, Riley led the Lakers to four straight NBA Finals appearances and three championships as head coach during the “Showtime” era. In 1987, he guided a team that is considered one of the best teams of all-time, with future Hall of Famers Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, plus Michael Cooper, Byron Scott, A.C. Green, Mychal Thompson and Kurt Rambis.
