The Los Angeles Lakers returned to Hawaii for their training camp this season and along with basketball and conditioning the team took time out of their busy schedules to give back to the Hawaiian community.

The Lakers were honored to be a part of the Positive Coaching Alliance’s Breakfast with Champions. Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak, Head Coach Byron Scott and Assistant Coach Mark Madsen joined the crowd of athletes, coaches and supporters to celebrate the unifying power of sports. The Lakers legends told stories of their triumphs and struggles and congratulated the students who were the Triple-Impact Competitors Scholarship Winners.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Kaiser Permanente teamed up to host a “Fit for Life Health Clinic” at the Nuuanu YMCA in Honolulu. The clinic focused on maintaining healthy exercise habits along with providing the kids with health tips they could use in their everyday lives.
Lakers legend James Worthy, Point Guard Marcelo Huertas and the Laker Girls were all on hand to teach the kids some healthy tips and to play some fun school yard games to get their hearts pumping.

Coinciding with the Lakers Training Camp, Kaiser partnered with the Los Angeles Lakers to provide a basketball skills clinic, featuring D’Angelo Russell , Tarik Black and the Laker Girls. Children from Nuuanu YMCA participated in the basketball clinic where they worked on their shooting technique, defensive skills and conditioning.
A few miles away, the Lakers and Chevron were busy over at the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii. The Lakers have a long standing relationship with the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii; 10 years ago the Lakers renovated their Reading and Learning Center and 10 years later we return and renovate their basketball court and gym. The Lakers, Lakers Youth Foundation, Chevron and the Rotary Club of Honolulu all came together to support this community center and the programing it provides to the children of Oahu.
