The Los Angeles Lakers teamed up with HealthCorps and the California Endowment on Saturday March 22nd at Roosevelt High School for the first annual Highway to Health Festival. The Health Festival was a community oriented event for students and their families. The festival showcased neighborhood health resources for the Los Angeles area. The festival was designed to promote awareness of the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices including nutrition, physical fitness, and mental resiliency.
Pau Gasol, Nick Young, Xavier Henry and the Laker girls all came out to show their support and to participate in this year’s Highway to Health Fair. The Laker girls participated in a Zumba fitness class before teaching the crowd a dance routine. Pau Gasol was a guest judge for the Teen Battle Chef Contest which is a Youth Development Program exploring culinary, nutrition, food systems, and gardening education, while battling obesity and chronic disease. Nick Young and Xavier Henry took the students through multiple basketball drills before a competitive game of Knock Out. And all three players visited the student ran booths that included food samples, fitness competitions, and stress relief demonstrations.
The day concluded with a raffle for Laker tickets and autographed memorabilia along with a skills demonstration of some ball handling moves by the players. The Lakers are excited to team up with Active Alliance to continue our commitment to healthy lifestyle choices.
