Jesse Mermuys carries 18 years of basketball prowess at the high school, collegiate, NBA G League and NBA levels as he rejoins Walton in Sacramento after spending the past three seasons on Walton’s staff as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2016-19. Having worked his way up through the coaching ranks, Mermuys brings a breadth of NBA experience to the Kings from the video room, as an advance scout, player development, as well as an assistant coach specializing in defense and offense throughout his time in the NBA.

Prior to joining Walton in Los Angeles, Mermuys was named the head coach/assistant general manager of the Toronto Raptors’ NBA G League affiliate, Raptors 905, for the 2015-16 season leading them to a record of 23-27 in the team’s inaugural season. Before becoming the head coach of the Raptors 905, Mermuys served as an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors under Dwane Casey during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons as he was the Raptors Summer League coach in Las Vegas in 2014 and 2015. During the 2013-14 season, Mermuys was a part of the Houston Rockets staff as an assistant coach and director of player development after spending the previous four seasons from 2008-12 as a video coordinator, advance scout and assistant coach/advance scout for the Denver Nuggets under George Karl.

In October of 2006, Mermuys was named director of basketball operations at his alma mater, the University of Arizona where he worked for the Wildcats until 2008. Preceding his time at Arizona, Mermuys became the video coordinator at New Mexico State in August 2006 and was an assistant coach for Southern Utah during the 2005-06 season. A Tucson native, Mermuys was an assistant coach at Pima Community College in his hometown from 2003-04 as Mermuys coaching career started when he was the head freshman and varsity assistant coach at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson from 2001-2003.
