Summer League Q&A with Davion Mitchell

We caught up with Kings second-year guard Davion Mitchell at NBA Summer League to get his assessment of the team and find out what he’s been up to this summer.

What advice would you give Keegan Murray as he navigates his rookie season?

He's going to go through stuff. You got 82 games. I went through a lot -- missed a lot of shots, turned the ball over, some down times. He’s going to go through it. But you keep trusting your work, you'll be good.

How do you think the additions of Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter can help the team take the next step?

They’re kind of like a role model for me. They've been in the league, they know how to get through those tough games.

You’ll be playing under a new coaching staff this season, led by Mike Brown. What have your initial conversation been like and how do you think his experience can help the team?

It’s going to help a lot. He’s been on a championship-caliber team, especially on the defensive end. Sacramento hasn't really been known for their defense, so, him coming in and being a defensive-minded coach is going to help us win a lot of games.

And how has your offseason been going? Any training or vacation plans?

No, no vacation. I was just talking to Domas to see if he was going to take one and he was like, ‘nah, no vacation.” We're trying to make the playoffs, and we got bigger things to look at.

And lastly, what are your expectations for this upcoming season?

Just to have a really good year, man. We’re supposed to win games. We got a really good team, play together. A lot of people are putting a lot of pressure to make the playoffs, but we all just play our game, play together, play for one another. Things are going to happen.
