The Diversity & Inclusion Council

At the Kings, we are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity. We embrace the importance of establishing an environment in which all our team members can feel valued, included and empowered. In recognition of our ongoing diversity and inclusion efforts, we were awarded with the 2019 & 2020 NBA Inclusion Innovation Award.

The Diversity & Inclusion Council

was formed in 2017 and serves as a catalyst for developing a Diversity & Inclusion Strategy to promote an inclusive and innovative culture. Council members are committed to developing a culture in which all Team Members are respected, valued and welcomed. Our organization recognizes that we are stronger because of our differences and we value diverse perspectives as they generate more ideas, spark innovation and connect us closer to our fans, team members and our communities.

Mission Statement of the Diversity & Inclusion Council
Be a catalyst for equity by empowering teammates to value and respect each other’s individuality through education and awareness to drive organizational success.

Women In Sports

The Women in Sports Network was founded to build upon our commitment to provide a safe, positive and empowering workplace for women while also promoting career advancement and inclusion. This internal employee group focuses on supporting female employees through professional skills training, recruitment, mentorship, and networking efforts. Training is also provided for men, to help create a supportive environment.

Black and Beyond

Black and Beyond celebrates and promotes the diverse talents of the Sacramento Kings Black employees through professional development initiatives and community service. It encourages members to strengthen their networks by providing opportunities to share experiences and best practices in the sports industry. It serves as a resource for strategic business initiatives, promotes the continued growth and retention of Black employees, creates platforms to facilitate engagement and mentorship, fosters an atmosphere open to race-based conversation and knowledge share and provides community service opportunities geared towards urban-youth development.

Golden 1 Center Inclusive Spaces

We have taken strides to make Golden 1 Center a more inclusive space for visitors with the addition and accessibility of rental strollers, family restrooms, a sensory room for those who have stimulus-based disabilities, suites for nursing mothers, and a soon to be developed Tot Lot in partnership with First 5 California.

Suites for Nursing Mothers

We were the first National Basketball Association (NBA) team to offer a pumping/breast feeding suite for nursing mothers.

Diversity & Inclusion Training

As part of our ongoing internal training efforts, we were excited to host Oris Stuart, Chief Diversity Officer of the NBA League office for a Diversity & Inclusion training in our Practice Facility for all Team Members. The session mirrored the NBA’s philosophy of celebrating a common love of the game and building connections that enable us to leverage our differences.
