Preview: Kings (24-32) at Warriors (46-9)

As NBA All-Star Weekend approaches, the Golden State Warriors find themselves in a familiar spot—at the top of the League’s standings. The only team with just single-digit losses, their record sits at an incredible 46-9.

Their most recent game saw them take a hit, as they lost 132-110 to the upstart Denver Nuggets. The team from the Mile High City used a style of basketball that has become synonymous to Golden State, barraging the Warriors with long distance shots. In the winning effort, Denver tied an NBA record, making 24 3-pointers. They made 16 of these 24 shots from downtown by halftime, which also matched a League best.

The Warriors had five players score in double-digits, led by Kevin Durant’s 25 points. It was not enough, with Nikola Jokic finishing the game with his second triple-double of the month: 17 points, 21 rebounds and 12 assists.

On the other hand, the Kings come into the matchup with opposite momentum. Sacramento beat the Los Angeles Lakers 97-96 at Staples Center, clinching their fourth win in a row. The Kings were helped by the continued strong efforts of Darren Collison and Ben McLemore, who each scored 13 points. DeMarcus Cousins was the best player on the floor, posting 40 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.

When they face the Warriors, the Kings will be looking for their fifth straight win overall and their second straight against their Northern California rival.

Key Matchup

Durant may be in his first year with the Warriors, but he hasn’t missed a step. He is in the midst of a streak of four games where he’s scored at least 20. He is averaging 25.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists. At 53.7 percent, he is having his best shooting season of his career. A combination of McLemore, Arron Afflalo and Matt Barnes will have their hands full against the Warriors forward.
