Get to Know: Kings Assistant Coach Bryan Gates

Kings head coach Dave Joerger has assembled his staff, which includes coaches with various levels of championship experience, like Bryan Gates.

Gates most recently served as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2015-16 season, but first got his start in the NBA as an assistant with the Kings in 2008.

Prior to his time in the NBA, Gates spent several years coaching in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association), USBL (United States Basketball League), NBA Development League.

During his time in the D-League, Gates found great success working with the Idaho Stampede, receiving the Dennis Johnson D-League Coach of the Year award on two occasions (2006-07, 2007-08) and also leading his team to the championship in the 2007-08 season.

Gates would go on to work in Sacramento and then New Orleans for five seasons before joining the Timberwolves last year.

He joins Elston Turner as one of two former Kings assistant coaches to make their return to Sacramento as part of Coach Joerger’s staff.
