30 TEAMS COMPETE, EIGHT TEAMS ADVANCE, ONE IS CROWNED CHAMPION!
All 30 teams split into six groups during group play in November, eight teams advance to the single-elimination knockout rounds in December, culminating with the semifinals and championship at a neutral site, where a champion is crowned.
STAGE 1: NBA IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT GROUP PLAY
- TOURNAMENT NIGHTS take place across Tues. & Fri. from 11/3 to 11/28, excluding Election Day on 11/7
STAGE 2: NBA IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT KNOCKOUT ROUNDS
- QUARTERFINALS (Dec 4-5) at higher seed
- SEMIFINALS (Dec 7) & CHAMPIONSHIP (Dec 9) at a neutral site.

Tournament Information
- All 30 teams will be divided into six groups of five.
- Groups are composed of teams from the same conference, but not divisions. Groupings are determined by random draw, based on prior season’s regular season record.
- Tuesdays & Fridays from 11/3-11/28 are tournament nights where all games will be tournament games.
- Each team will play four group play games, playing each team in their group once, with two games at home and two on the road.
- The winner of each of the six groups along with two wild card teams (one from each conference determined by best group play record among all non-group winners) will advance to the single-elimination knockout rounds which include the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship.
- Quarterfinals will take place at home for the higher seed.
- Semifinals and championship game will be held at a neutral site, T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
- Teams will be competing for the NBA Cup, players will also receive a monetary prize based on results. There will be awards for the Most Valuable Player and All-Tournament Team selections.
- All tournament games, except the championship, will count towards regular season standings.
- Teams that do not advance to the knockout rounds will play two regular season games on Dec 6 & 8 as part of their 82-game schedule.
