January 25, 2017 – The NBA announced today that Charlotte Hornets forward Frank Kaminsky has been selected to participate in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge that will be played on Friday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m. and will be broadcast on TNT. The game will be part of the NBA’s All-Star Weekend in New Orleans and will showcase the NBA’s best young players. For the third consecutive year, the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge will feature a USA versus the World format.
In his second season in Charlotte, Kaminsky is averaging career highs in points (10.2), rebounds (4.4) and assists (2.0). Kaminsky is one of only three second-year players averaging more than 10 points, four rebounds and two assists per game while appearing in more than 20 contests (Jokic, Denver and Towns, Minnesota). The Wisconsin product has hit multiple three-point field goals in four consecutive games and has 15 such games on the year, ranking him fourth amongst first- and second-year forwards. Additionally, Kaminsky’s four games with 20+ points rank him eighth among first- and second-year players.
Kaminsky is the first Hornets player to play in the game since Cody Zeller appeared in the Rising Stars Challenge in 2015.
The BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge will pit first- and second-year NBA players from the United States against first- and second-year NBA players from around the world. Assistant coaches from each NBA team selected the 10-man rosters for the game.
