Charlotte used a total team effort on Feb. 7 at Spectrum Center to get back on the winning track with a 111-107 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Kemba Walker, Nicolas Batum and Marco Belinelli scored 17 points apiece to lead seven Hornets scoring in double figures as Charlotte put an end to its seven-game losing streak in front of 15,322 on its home court.

Turning Point

The Hornets appeared to have the game in hand when Marvin Williams sunk two free throws to put them up 91-82 with 7:27 remaining but the Nets wouldn’t go away, connecting on its next two possessions to trim the lead to 91-87 at the six-minute mark. After struggling to close out games in the fourth quarter in the seven-game skid, the next 3:30 were crucial to the Hornets, led by their most veteran player in Williams. First, he converted on a cutting layup off a nice feed from Nicolas Batum to make it 93-87. Next, he appears to get a piece of Bojan Bogdanovic’s shot on the Nets ensuing possession, and following a Brook Lopez jumper to cut it to 93-89, it was Williams who came up big again. Following Kemba Walker’s miss, Williams battled three Nets for an offensive rebound only to see Brooklyn knock the ball out of bounds and give the ball back to Charlotte. Walker didn’t waste the possession and found Belinelli on a cut to the basket and pushed the lead to 95-89. A Frank Kaminsky tip-in and two Belinelli free throws later and Charlotte had a 10-point lead on its way to win No. 24.

Hornets Player of the Game

Nic Batum continued to fill the stat sheet for Charlotte, tying Kemba Walker and Marco Belinelli with a team-high 17 points to go with eight rebounds, four assists, a season-high-tying four steals and two blocked shots.

Nets Player of the Game

Began Bogdanovich scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including three three-pointers, marking his 11th game this season with 20-plus points. He added five rebounds and an assist in 30 minutes.
