Hornets and Fox Sports Southeast to Donate $34,000 to CMS Teachers

The Charlotte Hornets and FOX Sports Southeast, in partnership with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Foundation, will award a total of $34,000 in Teacher Innovation Fund grants to 11 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teachers to support the implementation of dynamic ideas to educate students.

Philanthropic Milestones

The Charlotte Hornets Foundation, in partnership with Fox Sports Southeast, contributed $250,000 to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to fund middle school sports programs.

The Charlotte Hornets Foundation and Fox Sports Southeast contributed $250,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina to support the fight against hunger in the Charlotte community. The donation was earmarked for food and the purchase of a refrigerated mobile pantry.

In partnership with Fox Sports Southeast, the Charlotte Hornets Foundation contributed $200,000 to the Y Achievers program, a YMCA of Greater Charlotte program, and $30,000 in scholarships for Y Achievers students. The Y Achievers program is designed to help teens set and pursue high education and career goals.

The Charlotte Hornets Foundation, Fox Sports Southeast and Lowe’s contributed $250,000 to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools Foundation to establish the Teacher Innovation Fund, which seeks to empower teachers to implement successful, innovative strategies to educate and prepare every child to graduate from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools college and career ready.

The Charlotte Hornets Foundation and Fox Sports Southeast, contributed $200,000 to Central Piedmont Community College’s Veteran Employment Fund, which provides veterans the opportunity to pursue paid internships with Charlotte companies while working towards their degree.

In partnership with Bank of America and Lowe’s, the Charlotte Hornets Foundation contributed $300,000 towards improving education and literacy in Charlotte. The donation included $100,000 each to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation and Freedom School Partners and donations of $50,000 each to Child Care Resources Inc. and CrossRoads Corporation.
