August 17, 2022&nbsp;– The Charlotte Hornets will open the 2022-23 regular season with a visit to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, October 19, before hosting the New Orleans Pelicans in their first home game on Friday, October 21, at 7 p.m. at Spectrum Center.&nbsp; Single-game tickets for the 2022-23 season will go on sale to the general public this Friday, August 19, at 10 a.m. and can be purchased online at hornets.com or ticketmaster.com, or via the Hornets App.

Highlights of the Hornets home schedule include an early matchup with Stephen Curry and the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors on Saturday, October 29,&nbsp; a visit from LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, January 2, and a contest against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, December 3. The defending Eastern Conference Champion Boston Celtics will visit Charlotte for consecutive games on Saturday, January 14, and Monday, January 16, with the latter being a 1 p.m. tipoff on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The schedule features 22 home games on weekend dates, including nine Fridays, eight Saturdays and five Sundays.&nbsp; The season’s longest homestand is five straight games from March 11-20, and the longest road trip is six games from December 18-27.&nbsp; The Hornets have 12 sets of back-to-back games.

All regionally available regular-season games will be televised on Bally Sports Southeast and streamed live on BallySports.com and the Bally Sports app. All Hornets games will be anchored by the network’s flagship pre- and postgame show,&nbsp;Hornets LIVE.&nbsp; All 82 regular-season games will be broadcast on radio on WFNZ (610 AM/92.7 FM), the team’s flagship radio station, and the Hornets App.&nbsp; In addition, the Hornets are slated to have two games televised on ESPN and one contest shown on TNT during the 2022-23 season – Wednesday, November 2, at Chicago (ESPN), Thursday, January 26 vs. Chicago (TNT) and Friday, February 10 at Boston (ESPN).

The first normal offseason in three years has led to some quiet time around the NBA ever since Summer League wrapped up in Las Vegas about a month ago. That finally changed on Wednesday afternoon with the always much-anticipated annual schedule release. As for the Charlotte Hornets, who they’re going to play this season was already pre-determined – the excitement lies in the when, where and even how these games will transpire.

This season, the Hornets will play 18 games on Friday (nine home, nine away), 14 on Wednesday (seven home, seven away), 13 on Monday (eight home, five away), 12 on Sunday (five home, seven away), 10 on Saturday (eight home, two away), eight on Tuesday (two home, six away) and seven on Thursday (two home, five away).

August 10, 2022&nbsp;– The NBA Foundation today announced that Charlotte-based nonprofit Carolina Youth Coalition (CYC) has received a generous grant as part of the Foundation’s sixth grant round. In addition, the Foundation again awarded local nonprofit Road to Hire (R2H) with a grant renewal. Overall, 40 nonprofit organizations that are driving economic empowerment for Black youth across the country received a total of $20 million in grants this cycle.&nbsp;The grants will enhance and build upon the important work of these organizations that aligns with the NBA Foundation’s mission of helping to generate successful transitions from school to meaningful employment in Black communities across the United States and Canada.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“We are very pleased that the NBA Foundation has recognized the incredible work that Carolina Youth Coalition is doing to help some of our promising, yet vulnerable, local students find a path to successful careers,” said Hornets Sports &amp; Entertainment President &amp; Vice Chairman Fred Whitfield.&nbsp; “Carolina Youth Coalition is leading the way in helping to remove social, academic and financial barriers to a college education, which has proven to be critical to one’s long-term success. For nearly seven years, since a Harvard study identified Charlotte as the most unlikely large city in America for someone to make their way out of poverty, economic mobility has been at the forefront of conversation amongst community and business leaders. Carolina Youth Coalition was created in 2018 to help prepare low-income and first-generation college students in the Charlotte area who are high achieving yet often under-resourced to enter, excel in and graduate from college. The grant from the NBA Foundation will support the organization’s Torch Fellows Program, which pairs 9th-12th&nbsp;graders who will be first-generation college students with mentors and provides weekly college and consciousness programming designed to prepare students to be academically, socially and financially prepared to enter their best-fit college. While hundreds of students have taken advantage of CYC’s programming, over 2,000 students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools qualify for their services.

"We are so thankful for the support that the Charlotte Hornets Foundation has shown us, and for the generous donation from the NBA Foundation,” said Carolina Youth Coalition Co-Founder &amp; Executive Director Aaron Randolph. “Each and every day we strive to help our Fellows recognize their full potential and achieve their dreams. For the entirety of a school year, CYC Torch Fellows commit to attending two “core programs” each week on topics ranging from self-awareness to ACT prep to college, scholarship and financial aid application support. In 2020-21, there were more than 110 Torch Fellows, marking a 57 percent increase from the year prior. Of those, 100 percent of seniors in the program were accepted to a four-year college and $2.3 million in scholarships were redeemed, meaning 66 percent were able to attend college debt-free. This past school year, there were 162 Fellows, with 87 percent of seniors being first-generation college applicants, who redeemed $3.5 million in scholarships.&nbsp;To date, 96% of Torch Fellows who have entered college remain enrolled and on track to graduate from college.&nbsp;CYC aims to enroll an additional 100 students for their 2022-23 and 2023-24 programming.

Road to Hire works to change the story and abolish career gatekeeping, dismantle systems of privilege and systemic racism, and create real access for under-served young adults. The organization connects under-resourced young adults with onramps to high-earning and in-demand careers in technology through college access, paid training for their first career job and robust life skills support.&nbsp;

In addition to CYC and R2H, the NBA Foundation awarded grants to the National Center on Institutions and Alternatives, Inc., Year Up and Black Girl Ventures, all of which are national organizations with a presence in Charlotte. The NBA Foundation will continue to collaborate with all 30 teams, their affiliated charitable organizations and the NBPA to support national and local organizations and their efforts to increase education and employment access in Black communities.

August 4, 2022 – The Charlotte Hornets today announced their five game 2022-23 preseason schedule, highlighted by hosting a preseason game at the Greensboro Coliseum against the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics (Oct. 7), as well as two home matchups at Spectrum Center vs. the Indiana Pacers (Oct. 5) and the Washington Wizards (Oct. 10).

The Hornets will open the preseason on the road against the Celtics on Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. before returning home to play Indiana on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. Charlotte then plays host to the Celtics at the Greensboro Coliseum for a Friday night matchup on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Charlotte next hosts Washington on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. before a trip to round out the preseason to Philadelphia against the 76ers on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the Hornets two home preseason games at Spectrum Center will go on sale at a later date.&nbsp; Tickets for the team’s first appearance in Greensboro since the 2016 preseason are available online at hornets.com or ticketmaster.com, on the Hornets App or at the Greensboro Coliseum box office, which is open Thursday-Saturday from 12-5 p.m

Charlotte Hornets Announce 2022-23 Preseason Schedule

August 2, 2022 – Charlotte Hornets President of Basketball Operations &amp; General Manager Mitch Kupchak announced today that the team has added Tyrone Corbin, Bob Beyer, Rex Walters, Bruce Kruetzer and Brian O’Connor to Steve Clifford’s staff. Additionally, the team has retained assistant coaches Marlon Garnett, Jay Hernandez, Nick Friedman and Norman Richardson.

Tyrone Corbin joins the Hornets as an assistant coach, bringing 16 years of NBA head and assistant coaching experience after a 16-year NBA playing career. Corbin is a Columbia, South Carolina, native and joins the Hornets after most recently serving on the Orlando Magic’s coaching staff under Steve Clifford from 2018 to 2021. The DePaul product retired from playing in 2001 and began his coaching career in 2004 with the Utah Jazz, where he was an assistant coach for six and a half seasons before serving as head coach for three and a half. After taking over for the final 28 games of the 2010-11 season, Corbin led the Jazz to back-to-back winning seasons in 2011-12 and 2012-13. He spent the 2014-15 season with the Sacramento Kings, again serving as interim head coach for 28 games, and was with the Phoenix Suns from 2016 to 2018 before joining Clifford in Orlando. Corbin appeared in 1,065 NBA games during his playing career as well as 81 playoff games. He ended his career with averages of 9.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 26.0 minutes per game.

Bob Beyer joins the Hornets as an assistant coach, bringing 15 years of NBA assistant coaching experience and multiple decades of coaching experience overall between professional and collegiate coaching stints. The New York native most recently served on the New Orleans Pelicans coaching staff during the 2020-21 season and previously coached under Clifford in Charlotte during the 2013-14 NBA season. Beyer is a graduate of Alfred University, where he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant before collegiate coaching stints at Albany, Siena, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Texas Tech and Dayton. Along with the one season in Charlotte, his NBA coaching experience includes roles in Toronto, Orlando, Golden State, Detroit, Oklahoma City, Sacramento and New Orleans.

Rex Walters joins the Hornets as an assistant coach, bringing 18 years of combined NBA assistant and collegiate head and assistant coaching experience. The former Jayhawk also holds NBA and international playing experience after a 10-year career that began with him being selected as the 16th pick in the 1993 NBA Draft by the Nets. He ended his NBA playing career with averages of 4.6 points and 1.7 assists in 13.7 minutes played per game over 335 career appearances. Walters joins the Hornets after most recently serving on the New Orleans Pelicans coaching staff during the 2020-21 NBA season. Walters has a career college head coaching record of 158-160 in two years at Florida Atlantic and eight years at San Francisco, where he was named West Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2013-14, and served as head coach of the Grand Rapids Drive in the NBA G League in 2016-17. He also has assistant coaching experience in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons and at the collegiate level at Valparaiso, Nevada and Wake Forest.

Bruce Kruetzer joins the Hornets as an assistant coach, bringing decades of experience coaching at the NBA and collegiate levels, as well as serving as a shooting coach and consultant. The hire will mark Kruetzer’s second stint in Charlotte, having previously served on Steve Clifford’s staff from 2015 to 2018 as an assistant coach. Kruetzer most recently served as an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic from 2018 through the end of the 2021-22 season. His previous professional and collegiate coaching experience includes serving as the head coach of the ABA’s Atlanta Vision, working as a shooting consultant for the NBA G League and Philadelphia 76ers, and serving as an assistant coach at Queens University and UNC Charlotte.

Brian O’Connor joins the Hornets after spending the last five years at Georgetown University as part of Patrick Ewing’s staff. O’Connor, who previously served as a basketball operations intern with the Hornets during the 2016-17 NBA season, will have responsibilities in the team’s video room and will also be involved in all aspects within the coaching staff. &nbsp;

Garnett, Hernandez, Friedman and Richardson remain with the Hornets as assistant coaches. Hernandez returns for a fifth season in Charlotte, while Friedman enters his third season and Garnett and Richardson begin their second seasons.

Donation Consists of Foundation’s Annual $25,000 Wellness Grants for 2022 and 2023

August 1, 2022 –&nbsp;The Charlotte Hornets Foundation announced that it has committed its annual $25,000 Wellness Grants to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte for both 2022 and 2023, totaling a $50,000 donation to help the organization launch a new&nbsp;Adaptive Basketball, Cheer &amp; Dance League. The donation was presented by Charlotte Hornets Foundation Executive Director Betsy Mack and Hornets Chief Revenue Officer Jacob Gallagher to YMCA of Greater Charlotte Senior Vice President &amp; Chief Development Officer Dean Jones and Keith Family YMCA Executive Director Joyce Tompkins at a community event on Saturday.&nbsp;

“The YMCA of Greater Charlotte is an incredible organization that has been dedicated to building stronger and healthier kids and families for many years,” said Hornets President &amp; Vice Chairman Fred Whitfield. “We have seen first-hand that sports have the power to change lives. We’re very proud to support the YMCA in creating an adaptive sports league that we hope provides diversely-abled athletes across our community with new friendships and skills.”

The inaugural season of the YMCA Adaptive Basketball, Cheer &amp; Dance League is scheduled to begin later this year at the Keith Family YMCA, located in the University area of Charlotte. A league preview day was held on Saturday for interested families to learn about what the league will entail, as well as other adaptive sports opportunities that will be available throughout the year. As part of the event, the Honey Bees participated in a dance demonstration, while attendees were also able to visit the Barings Book Bus, where books and Hornets “Bee Ball for All” basketballs were distributed.
