General Information

  • Must be at least 18 years old
    as of July 1, 2020
  • Must have graduated from high school or received GED
  • Must have proper audition attire
  • You must be available every night during the week of Bee Camp (dates to be determined after virtual auditions conclude)

Audition Application Details

Audition Schedule

  • Round 1 application and video submissions accepted from August 7 through August 21
  • Round 2 video submissions accepted from August 24 through August 28
  • Bee Camp - August 31 through September 10
  • Finals - TBA during week of Sept 14
  • You will be notified via email if you move on the next rounds as well as the Finals date
  • Additional announcements may also be made via social media

In addition to the application you must also submit the following

  • Full-body photo
    • Submit a recent full body photo in Hornets colors athletic wear and must be two pieces (i.e. a crop top/sports bra and dance trunks/briefs/shorts)
    • Do not use a photo that has a filter applied or that has been edited
  • Headshot
    • Submit a close-up favorite photo
    • Do not use a photo that has a filter applied or that has been edited
  • Video submission (2:00 max in length)
    • Elevator-pitch style video introduction
    • One-minute max, free-style dance to song of your choice (make sure lyrics of song are clean)
    • Film your video horizontal and with good lighting. Formal dance space not required

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do to prepare for Tryouts?

We suggest attending at least one of our prep classes to prepare you for the audition process

Do I need to have formal dance training?

Advanced dance skills are recommended but the judges will be looking for other qualities such as physical fitness, entertainment factor, and personality

What do I need to wear to auditions and for my video/ photo submissions?

Midriff top and shorts with a "Hornets" vibe. Outfit should utilize Hornets colors. Be creative, be unique, and show your love for Buzz City.

How should I wear my hair and makeup?

Please be game-ready and film your videos and photos with your hair styled and your makeup on

Will there be compensation?

Yes, Honey Bees are paid for home games, appearances, and rehearsals

What is the time commitment and is this a full-time job?

This is a part-time job, all Honey Bees must either have another full-time job or be taking classes. Dancers must be able to commit to a full NBA game schedule as well as two to three rehearsals per week from August 2020 through July 2021. If you are unable to commit to rehearsals and games you should not audition

What are some of the perks of being a Honey Bee?

Exciting photo shoots, international travel, team-building events, opportunity to participate in charitable events, tickets to Hornets games, just to name a few!

What other dates should I be prepared for in the summer?

Following our virtual rounds of auditions, candidates will be notified of our Bee Camp schedule. You should be prepared to attend all events of Bee Camp.
