Hispanic Heritage Celebration Event Recap
In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Miami HEAT surprised approximately 300 families of the Migrant Education Program (MEP) with Feeding South Florida (FSF) food staple boxes, school supplies, activation areas, vaccines and health screenings courtesy of Florida Blue, on-site cancer education to attendees provided by Baptist Health, meals from Pollo Tropical, free large pizza gift certificates from Papa John's Pizza, and espresso sampling from Café Bustelo.
HEAT - Miami Police - D2C: Press Event & Activation
The Miami HEAT, the City of Miami Police Department and Dedication to Community (D2C) have expanded their unique and ground-breaking partnership with the goal of training the entirety of the Miami Police Department—including approximately 900 uniformed officers—via a unique community policing program designed to help bridge the gap between Black and Brown city residents and local law enforcement. Longstanding HEAT community partner, Florida Blue, the state’s Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, will help underwrite the cost.
HEAT & UKG Miami Beach Pride Parade
On Sunday, April 10th, 2022 the Miami HEAT along with UKG, participated in this year’s Miami Beach Pride Parade to celebrate diversity & inclusion. The parade is part of the weeklong celebration that brings together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, their friends, allies, and supporters in celebration of the unique spirit and culture of the LGBTQ community.
2022 HEAT Scholarship Winners
BankUnited and The Miami HEAT Charitable Fund offer $25,000 annually in scholarship funds to high school seniors attending Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe or Palm Beach schools. This is the 26th year that the Miami HEAT has offered scholarships. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and outstanding community service. Scholarships include the following:
HEAT Learn and Play Center - Event Recap
The Miami HEAT unveiled their 21st HEAT Learn & Play Center presented by Florida Blue at The Motivational Edge, a nonprofit organization that integrates health and human services within culturally responsive music and arts programming for youth with adverse childhood experiences and those in crisis. The Motivational Edge’s goal is to ensure every youth and young adult it serves offers a positive contribution to society. Its programming implements a trauma-informed approach focused on mentoring, job readiness, and life-skills development through the arts.
