2004 Camp Director Charlie Criss
Charlie Criss, former Atlanta Hawks player, is the director of the 2004 Atlanta Hawks Summer Basketball Camp. Charlie brings a wealth of knowledge and over 30 years of basketball experience to the camp.
No stranger to hard work, Charlie is a veteran of 8 NBA seasons playing for the Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks and San Diego Clippers. Having entered the NBA in 1977 with the Hawks as the league's smallest player at the time, at only 5-feet-8 inches tall, and oldest rookie, at age 28, he is a walking lesson in persistency and determination.
Today, Charlie owns and operates two businesses, one of which focuses on youth development through sports. A certified golf instructor, Charlie has also served stints as Hawks television color commentator, USBL head coach and assistant high school basketball and golf coach.
Charlie will focus camp instruction on improving shooting, rebounding, ball-handling, defensive and team-building skills. Through camp lessons, campers will build self-esteem and confidence through athletics as Charlie emphasizes the similarities of the game to the game of life. He continues to cling to his life-long motto, "No Excuses," and passes it on every chance he gets.
