ATLANTA&nbsp;– The Atlanta Hawks signed guards Jarkel Joiner and Keaton Wallace, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Joiner appeared in four games with the Hawks during the NBA 2K24 Summer League 2023 in Las Vegas, registering 4.3 points, and 1.3 rebounds in 12.0 minutes.

Throughout his six-year collegiate career, Joiner suited up for NC State (2022-23), Ole Miss (2019-22, redshirt in 2019-20), and Cal State Bakersfield (2017-19). He appeared in 148 contests (136 starts), owning averages of 13.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steal in 31.7 minutes of action (.417 FG%, .330 3FG%, .828 FT%).

During the 2022-23 season, the 6-1 guard saw action in 34 games (all starts) as a member of the Wolfpack, tallying career highs in points per game (17.0), rebounds per game (4.8), assists per game (3.6), steals per game (1.3), and minutes per game (35.9). His 17.0 points per game ranked fourth in the ACC, while his 35.9 minutes per game ranked third. Joiner was named to the ACC All-Second Team, leading NC State to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018.

Wallace appeared in 49 total games (48 starts) with the Ontario Clippers during the 2022-23 NBA G League season (regular season and Showcase Cup), notching 13.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.7 steals in 32.6 minutes per game (.463 FG%, .382 3FG%, .745 FT%). He put in 30-or-more points three times during the 2022-23 campaign, including a career-best 39 points on 16-22 shooting from the floor and a 7-8 mark from deep in a win over the Motor City Cruise on Jan. 15, 2023. 

The 6-3 guard signed a two-way contract with the LA Clippers on Feb. 21, 2023. He did not appear in any games with the Clippers and was waived on March 1. Wallace saw action in three games with the Clippers during the NBA 2K24 Summer League 2023 in Las Vegas, recording 7.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steal in 16.1 minutes (.400 FG%, .300 3FG%, 1.000 FT%).

Wallace has appeared in 93 total games (79 starts) across two NBA G League seasons, owning averages of 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 31.2 minutes (.460 FG%, .382 3FG%, .773 FT%).

The Dallas, Texas, native appeared in 125 games (110 starts) contests throughout a four-year collegiate career at the University of Texas at San Antonio, registering 16.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals in 32.6 minutes of play (.401 FG%, .351 3FG%, .806 FT%). Wallace earned Second Team All-CUSA in three consecutive seasons (2018-21) and was named to the CUSA All-Freshman Team during the 2017-18 campaign.

To tip off the season, ‘Opening Night Presented by State Farm®’ is set for Friday, Oct. 27, as the Hawks face off against New York. All fans in attendance will receive a free Hawks t-shirt courtesy of State Farm.

In November, the Hawks play two NBA In-Season Tournament games on Friday, Nov. 17 against Philadelphia and on Tuesday, Nov. 21 against Indiana, competing for the prestigious NBA Cup. This tournament features single-elimination Knockout Rounds, making every moment intense.

As part of the first game of the NBA In-Season Tournament on Friday, the first 5,000 fans at entry will receive a commemorative ticket giveaway while supplies last. As part of the second game of the NBA In-Season Tournament on Tuesday, the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a special shirt.

Wednesday, Nov. 22 marks the first of three ‘Kids Nights’. As part of the first ‘Kids Night presented by BMW’, the first 5,000 kids in attendance for the team’s game against Brooklyn will receive a Trae Young youth jersey. The second ‘Kids Night’ will take place on Monday, Dec. 18 as part of a game against Detroit. On this night, the first 5,000 kids will enjoy a Harry Squishmallow giveaway at entry and while supplies last. The third and final Kids Night will take place on Sunday, Jan. 28 as the team faces Toronto.&nbsp;

This season, the Atlanta Hawks will continue to host a series of nights that celebrate the luminous culture, enduring traditions and significant legacies of African Americans. These nights will also honor the individuals who have played pivotal roles in uplifting, shaping and influencing the lives of Black communities.&nbsp;

On Wednesday, Nov. 15, the Hawks will host the second annual ‘Divine 9 Night presented by State Farm’ as the team matches up against New York. The Hawks have dedicated this night to celebrating the Black Greek Letter Organizations of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), collectively referred to as the Divine Nine (D9).&nbsp;The Hawks have a special ticket package for the first 1,000 fans, which includes: a special co-branded shirt, a $10 food-and-beverage credit and a $5 donation to the NPHC of Greater Atlanta.

‘MLK Day Game presented by Chase’ will take place on Monday, Jan. 15. During the game against San Antonio, the organization will honor the life and legacy of global icon and our city’s most favored son, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Hawks will take on Toronto for ‘HBCU Night presented by Chase’ on Friday, Feb. 23. This night is devoted to commemorating the educational excellence and distinctive culture of the over 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), which were originally established as institutions of higher learning for African Americans.

The Hawks will proudly host their annual ‘Pride Night’ game against Orlando on Wed., Jan. 17. The evening will amplify the importance of allyship and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. This night will also include the special illumination of the iconic ‘ATLANTA’ letters at State Farm Arena in radiant rainbow colors.&nbsp;

Leading up to the 2024 NBA All-Star weekend is a special ‘Dejounte Murray Bobblehead Night’ on Monday, Feb. 5 against the Los Angeles Clippers. As part of the evening, the first 5,000 fans entering the arena will receive a limited Dejounte Murray bobblehead, available while supplies last.

‘Hispanic Heritage Night presented by CareSource’ will take place on Sunday, March 10 against New Orleans. This celebration will honor the vibrant culture shared by NBA fans and players from Latin American and U.S. Hispanic communities and will feature various in-game elements, music, dance and delicious cuisine.&nbsp;

Coach Snyder and Assistant Coaches Shared Insights and Best Practices at the 12th Annual Clinic

ATLANTA – On Wednesday evening, Atlanta Hawks Head Coach Quin Snyder and the Hawks Basketball Academy hosted their 12th annual Coaches Clinic at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex, the official practice and training facility for the Hawks. Nearly 200 local coaches learned best practices in coaching philosophy and strategy directly from the team’s coaching staff at the free professional development event.

“We would like to express our gratitude to Coach Snyder and the entire Hawks coaching staff for leading the annual Coaches Clinic,” said Sr. Director of Hawks Basketball Academy Chris Jacobs. “As we continue to serve as a community asset, we hope that the local coaches in attendance left feeling energized, empowered and continue to build a solid foundation which will help them teach the game in a positive and enjoyable way to our city’s young athletes.”

Prior to the start of the clinic, the coaches had the opportunity to participate in a networking reception. In addition, each attendee received a gift bag that included a Hawks shirt, a sling bag, journal, coaching resources packet, and a gift certificate to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

To officially tip off the event, Bally Sports Southeast Play-By-Play Announcer Bob Rathbun provided a brief welcome and introduced the entire coaching staff. After that, the coaches went to various stations including one to learn about the team’s player development program from Assistant Coach Jeff Watkinson, one to learn about offensive action and plays from Assistant Coach Steve Klei, one to learn about situational shooting from Assistant Coach Brittni Donaldson, and one to learn about pick-and-roll defense from Assistant Coach Sanjay Lumpkin. The evening wrapped up with a special Q&A session from Hawks Head Coach Quin Snyder.

The Hawks Coaches Clinic is a premium professional development experience provided to community, scholastic, and collegiate basketball coaches across metro Atlanta. Since its inception in 2011, nearly 3,000 coaches have participated in learning development programs offered through the Hawks Basketball Academy’s Coach Education Program.

Three-Year Veteran Appeared in 23 Games for the Hawks Last Season

ATLANTA&nbsp;– The Atlanta Hawks have signed guard Trent Forrest to a two-way contract, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.&nbsp;

Forrest spent last season as a two-way player with the Hawks, appearing in 23 games (three starts) and averaging 2.3 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 rebounds in 12.0 minutes.

In his three-year career (including time with Utah from 2020-22), the 6-4 guard has averaged 3.0 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 rebounds in 11.9 minutes, playing in 113 games (nine starting assignments). 

After going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft, Forrest signed a two-way contract with the Jazz prior to the start of the 2020-21 season, and then again before the 2021-22 campaign. He signed a standard NBA contract on April 10, 2022.&nbsp;

A product of Florda State, Forrest appeared in 137 games (69 starts) over his four-year collegiate career, tallying 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals in 25.4 minutes (.462 FG%, .748 FT%). He finished his Seminole career as the all-time winningest player in program history with 104 wins, ranked third in total steals (224) and games played (137), while ranking fifth in total assists (455) and 10th in free throws made (336).

The Chipley, Florida, native was selected to the 2019-20 All-ACC Second Team and All-ACC Defensive Team, while garnering All-ACC Academic Team honors in each year at Florida State (2017-20).

ATLANTA&nbsp;– Earlier today, the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm gathered 5,000 volunteers at the award-winning State Farm Arena to pack more than one million meals as part of the 2023 Million Meal Pack. Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman, Hawks and State Farm Arena Chief Executive Officer Steve Koonin, State Farm Senior Vice President Dan Krause, NBA Hall of Famer and Hawks Legend Dominique Wilkins, Hawks Forward Jalen Johnson and more welcomed and extended heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers who devoted their time to support the team’s largest single-day community service effort of the year.&nbsp;

Individuals, families, community groups, schools, churches, businesses and more congregated on the arena floor to pack the meals. Together with volunteers from U.S. Hunger and executives from both the Hawks and State Farm, they collectively achieved an impressive total of 1,020,672&nbsp;meals packed.

“We extend our deep appreciation to today’s volunteers and take immense pride in seeing so many people come together to better the lives of others at today’s Million Meal Pack event with our dear partners at State Farm,” said Steve Koonin, CEO of the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena. “Recognizing the substantial effort required to combat food insecurity across Atlanta, we are hopeful that this single-day community service initiative will serve as an inspiration across metro Atlanta of what we can achieve together.”

The six 90-minute shifts of the event yielded:

“The Million Meal Pack was once again an incredible event, with thousands of volunteers coming together to help our Atlanta neighbors struggling with food insecurity,” said Dan Krause, Senior Vice President at State Farm.&nbsp;“We were proud to bring together local State Farm agents, employees and community volunteers to make a meaningful difference. We appreciate everyone who participated and give thanks to the Atlanta Hawks for our ongoing partnership in giving back and strengthening our communities.”

The packed meals will be distributed throughout the metro Atlanta area with the operational support of U.S. Hunger, a hunger relief organization with innovative programs designed to help feed people struggling with food insecurity. Additionally, 12 other local organizations will help distribute the meals including Atlanta Community Food Bank, Community Assistance Center, Fountain of Hope, Georgia State University Panther’s Pantry, Goodr, Hope Atlanta, Latin American Association, Midwest Food Bank, Meals On Wheels Atlanta, North Fulton Community Charities, Second Helpings and the Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta.&nbsp;

Statistics provided by the Atlanta Community Food Bank show that nearly one in nine Georgians are living with food insecurity, including one in eight children.

“There is nothing like this annual Million Meal Pack. The energy that Atlantans bring to the arena and the eagerness to give back, is unmatched,” said Rick Whitted, Chief Executive Officer at U.S. Hunger. “We are so grateful that the Hawks and State Farm invited us back for another year and congratulate them on the good work they do for the community.”&nbsp;

As part of accomplishing various packing milestones throughout the day and after completing a shift, volunteers were invited to participate in an exclusive volunteer-only celebration on State Farm Drive that included games, refreshments, music and fun.

Continuing to operate as the world's first TRUE Zero Waste Platinum certified sports and entertainment venue, this event is marked as the second zero waste Million Meal Pack with the arena diverting more than 97 percent from landfills that includes all materials generated from load-in to load-out.&nbsp;

Since partnering together five years ago, the Hawks and State Farm continue to lead efforts to impact the community in metro Atlanta. They have hosted two Million Meal Pack events, one during the summer of 2022 and the first in 2019. At each event, 5,000 volunteers filled the arena and prepared more than one million meals for distribution to local Atlantans through various community food bank organizations. In June of this year, the two organizations teamed up with the College Park Skyhawks to open their ninth Good Neighbor Club in College Park, Ga. at the College Park Auditorium. In recent years, the organizations have also partnered on providing free pop-up grocery stores in collaboration with Goodr Inc., an Atlanta-based social impact startup leveraging technology to reduce food waste and end hunger.

Hawks, State Farm, and Thousands of Volunteers Packed More Than One Million Meals To Combat Food Insecurity in Atlanta During 2023 Million Meal Pack

Bogdan Bogdanovic, Patty Mills, and Bruno Fernando are slated to begin play in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup this weekend. 

The 32-team tournament begins Friday and runs through Sep. 10. The first portion of the event features group play with the field broken into groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each of the eight groups advance to play in the next phase, which amounts to a 16-team, single-elimination event (with the inclusion of additional games among the top-eight teams to determine the exact finish from 1st place to 8th place).

For the first time in the event's history, the tourney is spread across three different host nations: the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.&nbsp;

Bogdanovic will lead Serbia into battle in Group B in Manila. They face each of the teams in their group once over the next week: China on Saturday, Puerto Rico on Monday, and South Sudan on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Serbia finished&nbsp;fifth&nbsp;in the previous iteration of the same event in 2019, although that team included two-time NBA MVP and reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokic, who is resting this summer after Denver's long playoff run. Nevertheless, Bogdanovic will have the help of some longtime Serbian team stalwarts like Nikola Milutinov as well as some rising young stars like Nikola Jovic of the Miami Heat.

Serbia went 4-1 over the past month in friendly warmup matches leading up to the World Cup. Bogdanovic averaged 15.8 points per game over that stretch, including a 19-point effort in a win over the same Chinese team that they face Saturday.

Mills and Australia play&nbsp;in Okinawa in a deep Group E alongside Germany, Finland and Japan. Australia finished in fourth place in the event in 2019, and Mills will be joined on the roster by a number of NBA players, including Josh Giddey, Matisse Thybulle, Dyson Daniels, and Joe Ingles.&nbsp;

Australia went 4-1 in their friendlies, while Mills averaged 9.4 points per game in those contests. They face Finland on Friday, Germany on Sunday, and host country Japan on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The Hawks acquired Mills, a 14-year NBA veteran and 2014 NBA Champion, in a July 12 trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Mills also helped Australia win&nbsp;a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Australia’s first medal in their Olympic men’s basketball history.

Angola returns to the event for a ninth time, with Fernando leading the way in the paint. They play in Group A in Manila, facing Italy in the tournament's first game Friday, followed by a match against host country the Philippines Sunday, and finishing against the Dominican Republic Tuesday.&nbsp;

Fernando had 12 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in Angola's&nbsp;final tuneup before the tournament, a 75-65 loss to Japan in Tokyo.

While Bogdanovic and Mills are certainly aiming for the top spot on the podium for their teams this summer, they would probably not mind a repeat of their individual performances from 2019. Bogdanovic led the event with 183 total points scored and Mills finished second with 182. It should be quite a sight to see the two snipers resume international play this week.

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Hawks today announced several additions within the Athletic Performance Team, including Director of Integrative Health Ray Chow, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Paddy Hogben, Upper Extremity Specialist Mojca “Mo” Herman, Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach Isaiah West, Assistant Physical Therapist Javan Francis, and Performance Coach, Basketball Systems Nick Gibson. Director of Athletic Training Scottie Parker enters his 10th season with the organization, Assistant Athletic Trainer John Dusel returns for his sixth season, and Assistant Athletic Trainer Takahiro Uchida begins his fourth season.

Chow&nbsp;comes to Atlanta&nbsp;following 27&nbsp;years&nbsp;as a&nbsp;massage therapist and assistant athletic trainer&nbsp;with the Toronto Raptors,&nbsp;where he also assisted&nbsp;with&nbsp;player&nbsp;strength and conditioning&nbsp;as well&nbsp;as&nbsp;nutrition.&nbsp;He served under every team president and general manager in Raptors history, including during the&nbsp;franchise’s&nbsp;2019 NBA Championship&nbsp;season.&nbsp;A native of Myanmar, Chow graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master’s in&nbsp;Molecular&nbsp;Biology&nbsp;and&nbsp;from the&nbsp;Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy.

Parker&nbsp;came to the Hawks&nbsp;as assistant athletic trainer in&nbsp;2014 before he was named head athletic trainer in 2017.&nbsp;Prior to joining the Hawks, Parker worked with the Seattle Seahawks, where he was part of the&nbsp;athletic&nbsp;training staff for the 2014 Super Bowl champions. Parker is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) by the National Athletic Trainers Association, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.&nbsp;He graduated from University of Northwestern&nbsp;– St. Paul (MN)&nbsp;with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Coaching. He earned his Master’s from California Baptist University&nbsp;in Athletic Training.&nbsp;

Hogben, originally from&nbsp;England,&nbsp;served as lead athletic development coach with the Geelong&nbsp;Football Club&nbsp;(Australian rules football)&nbsp;since 2020&nbsp;after two years as lead performance specialist with&nbsp;P3&nbsp;Peak&nbsp;Performance Project. He also has experience&nbsp;in professional rugby&nbsp;as strength and conditioning coach&nbsp;with&nbsp;Saracens RFC,&nbsp;Bedford Blues&nbsp;and with Bath Rugby.&nbsp;Hogben is a graduate of&nbsp;the&nbsp;University of Bath with a degree in Sports and Exercise Science and holds a Master’s from&nbsp;the&nbsp;University of Bedfordshire.

Herman&nbsp;has&nbsp;worked&nbsp;in private practice and sports medicine for the past 20 years. For the last four years, she has owned and operated Pro Rehab with MO, specializing exclusively in elite and professional athletes.&nbsp;Herman&nbsp;has been a therapist consultant to NBA athletes since 2008. She is the past president of the American Society of Hand Therapists and a former elite collegiate and Olympic swimmer.&nbsp;Herman&nbsp;is a Certified Hand Therapist who graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science and Master’s of Arts, both in Occupational Therapy.

Dusel&nbsp;originally joined the Hawks in&nbsp;2018 following two seasons with the Golden State Warriors, finishing as the team’s assistant athletic trainer. He&nbsp;also has experience with&nbsp;Cressey Sports Performance. Dusel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of New England&nbsp;and a Master’s from East Tennessee State University in Sport Science.

Uchida, a native of Japan,&nbsp;came to the Hawks as a seasonal assistant athletic trainer in 2020 before a promotion to assistant athletic trainer in 2021.&nbsp;He has prior experience with the Los Angeles Rams, Stanford University and University of Hawaii at Manoa.&nbsp;Uchida owns a Bachelor of Science from Lindenwood University and a Master’s in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science from University of Hawaii at Manoa.

West&nbsp;joins the Hawks from NBA Academy Africa&nbsp;(Senegal), where he served as athletic performance coach for the&nbsp;last three years.&nbsp;West previously worked for Healthy Baller Speed and Performance Center,&nbsp;The St. James, Cressey Sports Performance&nbsp;and the Washington Mystics. West&nbsp;earned a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from George Mason University.

Francis&nbsp;has worked the last four years at P3 Peak Performance Project as a sports biomechanist.&nbsp;From 2021-23, he&nbsp;also served&nbsp;as a graduate research assistant at the&nbsp;Georgia State University Biomechanics Laboratory.&nbsp;After earning a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management&nbsp;from Claflin University, Francis&nbsp;moved onto Georgia State, earning a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

Gibson&nbsp;rejoins the Hawks, where he was basketball operations coordinator from 2013-15. Most recently, he’s worked as&nbsp;director of&nbsp;basketball at P3 Sport Science in Atlanta for the last three years.&nbsp;Prior to that,&nbsp;he coached internationally with the Sichuan Blue Whales and Shenzhen Leopards of the Chinese Basketball Association. Gibson also served as&nbsp;player&nbsp;development&nbsp;director for the Tunisian National Team during&nbsp;the&nbsp;2021 Olympic Qualifiers and AfroBasket, where Tunisia took home the Gold Medal. Gibson is a graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s in Broadcast and Digital Journalism.
