Dust off those bellbottoms, grab that leisure suit out of the closet and crank up the eight track player - THE 70'S ARE BACK! And the Atlanta Hawks want to celebrate the era with fans both young and old. The Hawks will honor the team's history in the city with a series of retro games as part of the NBA Hardwood Classics Nights.
To commemorate these special games, the Hawks will don their classic green and blue home uniforms, worn from 1970-72, for four games beginning with the December 12 contest at Indiana. Fans were invited watch the Dec.12 game with Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins and others at a special Retro Viewing Party presented by Bud Light.
The team will make their home debut in the "throwback" uniforms on December 27 against the defending Central Division Champion Detroit Pistons. Fans can get a preview of guard Jason Terry modeling the retro attire at www.hawks.com.
Philips Arena will most certainly have a 70's vibe on December 27. The Hawks will "turn back the clock" on ticket prices and concessions, offering upper-level seats for just $7.50, and hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks for only $1.00. Single game tickets are available through Ticketmaster, by calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX or online at www.hawks.com.
As a special treat, Hip Hop pioneer Doug E. Fresh will perform some of his "old-school" favorites during a live halftime concert on the Philips Arena floor.
Other in-game features will include the recognition of Hawks legends and team milestones from the era, retro attire and performances by the Hawks Dance Team, circa 1970 themed premium giveaways and contests, and much more. Fans are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite "vintage" outfit for the chance to win some great prizes. Additionally, the first 5,000 people through the doors will receive a free Hawks ringer T-shirt, courtesy of UPS, featuring the 1970-72 green and blue logo.
Other NBA Hardwood Classics Nights scheduled for Philips Arena are January 19 versus the Pacers and March 20 against the Utah Jazz.
On December 12 and 27, January 19 and March 20, visitors to hawks.com will also feel like they stepped back in time as the official website of the Hawks will take on a groovy new look featuring the 1970-72 colors and logo.
