Suns hold off Grizzlies, 116-109

The Phoenix Suns (12-8) were able to hold off the Memphis Grizzlies (5-14) 116-109 in their second matchup of the season Saturday night. 

Jaren Jackson Jr. finished with a season-high 37 points and nine rebounds while Desmond Bane posted 27 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter, for Memphis. Vince Williams Jr. scored 12 points, his second consecutive night scoring in double figures. Jaylen Nowell entered the starting lineup for his first time this season and finished with eight points. 

Devin Booker led the Suns with 34 points and 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double and Kevin Durant followed with 27 points. Jusuf Nurkic scored 14 points and nine rebounds. 

The Grizzlies and the Suns battled back and forth to start the game ending the first quarter knotted at 27 points. Memphis took a 51-50 lead as they headed to intermission. The Suns went on a 12-0 run during the third quarter and outscored Memphis 34-21 to take a 12-point lead to enter the final period. 

Memphis cut into a 16-point Phoenix lead and pulled within six with under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Suns made 3-of-4 from the free throw line down the stretch.

The Grizzlies split their back-to-back following a road win over the Dallas Mavericks on Dec. 1.

The Grizzlies next play the Detroit Pistons at 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday, December 6, at Little Caesars Arena. The game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Southeast and 92.9 FM ESPN.
