Grizzlies' Staxtacular 2012 benefiting Stax Music Academy set for Saturday, February 11

MEMPHIS, January 6, 2012 — The Memphis Grizzlies and the Soulsville Foundation announced that Staxtacular 2012, an annual soul-shaking event and the largest fund-raiser of the year to benefit the Stax Music Academy, will take place at the Stax Museum on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 from 7 p.m. until the lights go out.

Named one of the “Top Parties of 2011” by the Commercial Appeal’s Party Line, this year’s event will be hosted by Memphis Grizzlies Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Marc Gasol and 2010-11 All-NBA Third Team member Zach Randolph and attended by members of the Grizzlies team. Staxtacular 2012 invites guests to “Wine, Dine and Grind” and will feature great cuisine, cocktails, live and silent auctions, complimentary valet parking, live music by the DMP Band, a performance by the Stax Music Academy, and much more.

That “much more” includes a special musical tribute to Stax legends Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love of The Memphis Horns, who will be in Los Angeles on the same date receiving the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy.

“This marks the fifth time in five years that someone from Memphis has received either a Lifetime Achievement or Trustee award from The Recording Academy,” said Stax Museum spokesperson Tim Sampson. “This speaks volumes about Memphis and its music. It’s all the more fitting that the Memphis Grizzlies and the Soulsville Foundation are celebrating Staxtacular and supporting a new generation of musicians on the same date The Memphis Horns receive the highest honor the music industry bestows.”

In addition to the live and silent auctions, there will be an online auction starting Feb. 1 and running up to the Feb. 11 event date.

Doors for the event open at 7 p.m.  Tickets to Staxtacular 2012 are $150 each and may be purchased by calling (901) 261-6338 or online at www.staxtacular.com. Special packages of tickets are also available.

All proceeds from Staxtacular 2012 benefit the Stax Music Academy. Stax Music Academy is a unique learning center that inspires young people and enhances their academic, cognitive, performance, and leadership skills by utilizing music and mentoring with a strong focus on the rich legacy and tradition of Stax Records.
