Celebrate ‘Small Business Saturday’ with the Memphis Grizzlies on Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Grand Lobby of FedExForum as the Grizzlies host the third annual, in-person Grizz Shop Local, a shopping event featuring more than three dozen Memphis and Mid-South small businesses.
Intent on keeping the shopping event entertaining for everyone, Grizz Shop Local will offer live music and vendor giveaways to the public, as well as a new Kid’s Zone Area with face painting and various activities. The first 500 shoppers will receive an exclusive, specially branded, re-usable shopping bag designed by Memphis designer Prep Curry.
The Memphis Grizzlies – intentional in their support of small, minority and women-owned businesses through many of their internal purchasing practices – originally created Grizz Shop Local in 2020, working with local event planner Cynthia Daniels & Co. to help support and sustain small, local businesses during the pandemic. The first in-person shopping event took place in 2021 with 25 Memphis-area small businesses and expanded to more than 40 vendors on Small Business Saturday last year.
Grizz Shop Local requested vendors apply for participation this year and received more than 200 submissions. As it has been since its inception, no vendor fees or promotional fees were charged to participating small businesses. In addition to providing small businesses the opportunity to increase their customer base, they will also be provided information in collaboration with a number of organizations that work with small businesses throughout the region, including the Greater Memphis Chamber, the Black Business Association of Memphis, Women’s Business Enterprise Council, the Downtown Memphis Commission and the City of Memphis Office of Business Diversity and Compliance.
The Grizzlies Den will also be open to the public during the Grizz Shop Local event. Shoppers can enjoy Black Friday savings with 40 percent off select items including fleece, tees and more, plus 40 percent off all headwear.
Grizz Shop Local attendees will need to comply with the FedExForum clear bag policy that limits the size and types of bags that may be brought into the venue. Only clear bags made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC no larger than 6x8x2 inches will be allowed inside FedExForum. Clear bags may not have an all-over print or decoration that prohibits full view of its contents. Clear bags may contain a strap, but metal or chain straps are prohibited.
