Memphis Grizzlies to launch ‘Grizz Goes Back to School’ Campaign with multiple events throughout Memphis from Sept. 16-20

As part of their ‘Grizz Goes Back to School’ Campaign, the Memphis Grizzlies will be hosting multiple events throughout the Greater Memphis area from Sept 16 – 20. Grizzlies staff, players and special guests will make appearances at events throughout the week. The initiative is designed to reinforce the importance of education, assist teachers in the classroom; and encourage all students to start the new school year off right and strive to be their very best. These events are closed to the public, but media is invited to attend.


Grizzlies Classroom Kit Delivery

Monday, September 16 from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m.

WHERE:

Humes Prep Middle School (659 N Manassas St.)

NOTES:

The Grizz Girls and Grizzlies employee volunteers will deliver gift baskets full of school supplies and Grizzlies swag items to teachers at Humes Middle School. Each classroom kit will include a stapler, construction paper, tape, ruler, folders, pens, white-out and more.

Grizz Fuel promoting healthy living through proper nutrition

Tuesday, September 17 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Grizzlies Prep (168 Jefferson Ave.)

NOTES:

Allen will join students in preparing healthy and affordable snacks while discussing why proper nutrition is important. Grizz Fuel promotes healthy living by providing engaging, hands-on experiences on how to prepare and cook healthy and affordable foods.


Leadership Prep Library Renovation

WHERE:

Leadership Preparatory Charter School (4190 Elliston Rd)

NOTES:

Grizzlies employee volunteers will spend an afternoon refurbishing the library at Leadership Prep. Volunteers will furnish the library with new chairs, carpet and bookshelves.


Read to Achieve Assembly

International Paper and Grizzlies employee volunteers, Grizz Girls and Winridge Elementary students and staff

WHAT:

Read to Achieve Assembly presented by International Paper in association with KPMG

WHEN:

Thursday, September 19 from 1 – 2 p.m.

WHERE:

Winridge Elementary (3500 Ridgeway Rd)

NOTES:

Grizzlies employee volunteers and International Paper employee volunteers will read two books to third through fifth graders at the school while Grizz Girls will be on hand to give out Grizzlies swag items to the students. International Paper will be donating the book “Apollo the Spacedog” to all classrooms. The children’s book was created by International Paper in collaboration with illustrator Kyle Beckett. Read to Achieve is an early literacy program designed to help young people develop life-long love for reading. The Grizzlies RTA program brings the joy of reading through Reading Assemblies, Reading Challenges and other exciting literacy activities.

rePRESENT Everyday Relaunch to reduce truancy

Hawkins Mill Elementary (4295 Mountain Terrace St.)

NOTES:

The Grizzlies will relaunch their new and improved program to help reduce absenteeism amongst the most impacted schools within Shelby County Schools. The program is designed to help keep youth in school, learning and engaged. As an incentive, the Grizzlies will be teaming up with the Shelby County District Attorney office to support students and will reward students with bikes at the end of the school year. Shelby County District Attorney General Amy P. Weirich will speak, and a DJ, courtesy of the Memphis Police Department, will be on site to entertain students. Grizz and Grizzline will also make special appearances.
