Memphis Grizzlies announce ‘Grizz Goes Back to School’ campaign with multiple events in Memphis throughout September

Memphis, Tenn. – As part of their ‘Grizz Goes Back to School’ campaign, the Memphis Grizzlies will continue to host multiple events throughout the Greater Memphis area during the month of September. To tip off the annual campaign, the Grizzlies teamed up with the Memphis Public Library on the release of the first ever Grizzlies Library Card. Throughout the month of September, fans can sign up to receive their limited-edition Grizzlies Library Card at all Memphis Public Library locations. In partnership with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and MSCS Nutrition Services, the Memphis Grizzlies offered more than 140 students from Snowden Elementary the opportunity to take part in interactive culinary demonstrations on Tuesday, Sept. 13. VariousGrizzlies personalities joined the MSCS Nutrition Services team as they led 30-minute cooking demonstrations where students learned how to make parfait style treats with golden kiwi, cantaloupe, blueberries and yogurt. The students were taught the importance of health and wellness and shown how food is grown and how it fuels their bodies to live better lives both mentally and physically.

Volunteers will aid in packing 1,000+ meals that will be distributed at a later date. For the YMCA, bulk meal packing increases during the month of September to meet the needs of schools and community partners in the Mid-South region. The YMCA aims to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all and starts by making sure no kid is left hungry. This event is closed to the public.

In partnership with Delta Dental of Tennessee, the Grizzlies will close out their ‘Grizz Goes Back to School’ campaign by hosting an educational field trip with Team Smile for 300 Memphis-Shelby County Schools students at FedExForum on Friday, Sept. 30. Students invited are a part of the rePRESENT Every Day Program, presented by Delta Dental of Tennessee. rePRESENT Every Day is an incentive-based truancy reduction program, designed to help keep youth in school and engaged in the classroom. This program was created due to chronic absenteeism, within numerous schools in Shelby County. The program’s goal is to increase attendance at each of the partnering schools by 5% - 12%; by rewarding students throughout the school year. During the field trip, students will receive free dental cleanings, learn proper oral hygiene and foods to eat, as well as be given the opportunity to interact with Grizzlies entertainment teams. Students will also walk away with resources on where they can receive affordable dental care in their neighborhoods. Team Smile provides premier dental care to underserved children through the power of sports. This event is closed to the public.
