Heat hold on to defeat Grizzlies, 108-102

The Memphis Grizzlies (1-7) battled back in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell short in a 108-102 loss to the Miami Heat (4-4) Wednesday at FedExForum.

Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 28 points for Memphis, and Desmond Bane followed with 15. Marcus Smart contributed 11 points and seven assists for the Grizzlies, who were limited to 38.9 percent from the field.

Bam Adebayo led the Heat with a season-high 30 points and 11 rebounds, making 14-of-16 from the free throw line, while Kyle Lowry posted season highs with 17 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Jimmy Butler scored15 points and Haywood Highsmith added 14 points for the Heat, who picked up their first road win of the season entering a stretch in which the team will play nine out of 10 away from home.

After pulling within two points on six different occasions, Memphis finally wrestled back the lead from Miami after Santi Aldama’s 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter. Jackson Jr.’s jumper extended the Grizzlies’ lead to four, but Miami pushed back ahead with a 28-13 run to take an 11-point lead with 1:55 remaining.

Memphis scored eight straight points to pull within three, but Jaime Jaquez Jr. made a corner 3, his only 3-point attempt of the game, with 18.4 seconds left to clinch the victory for Miami.

The Grizzlies host the Utah Jazz in their second In-Season Tournament game on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. CT at FedExForum. The game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Southeast and 92.9 FM ESPN.
