Grizzlies rally past Spurs, 120-108, in San Antonio

The Memphis Grizzlies (3-9) overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs (3-10), 120-108, at Frost Bank Center. 

Jaren Jackson Jr. led all scorers with 27 points, shooting 11-of-12 from the free throw line, and Desmond Bane followed with 26 points for the Grizzlies, who won for the third time in their last four road games. Santi Aldama and Ziaire Williams both scored 17 points, leading a 45-point performance from the Grizzlies’ bench. Aldama added 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, while Williams posted a season-best scoring total.

Memphis defeated San Antonio for the 11th straight time in the head-to-head series, the Grizzlies’ longest-ever winning streak over the Spurs and longest active winning streak over a single opponent. This marked the team’s eighth straight victory at Frost Bank Center.

Keldon Johnson finished with 22 points for the Spurs, who dropped their eighth straight. Victor Wembanyama,the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, also recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds to go with eight blocks. Zach Collins and Jeremy Sochan both scored 16 points. 

Memphis trailed by 17 at the half but cut the deficit to seven as San Antonio led 94-87 entering the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies shifted gears and went on a 23-0 run with 5:22 left in regulation. Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 12 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter to help lead the comeback. 

The Grizzlies outscored the Spurs 33-14 in the fourth quarter and limited San Antonio to 28.6 percent shooting in the final frame.
