Doin’ It In The Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC is an independent documentary film directed by Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau. The film, which explores the history, culture, and social impact of playground basketball, lies within the goals of the Memphis Grizzlies Healthy Home Court initiative by presenting a number of different basketball related games and emphasizing the inclusiveness of playground basketball as a positive activity for individuals and groups.

Also, the Memphis Grizzlies encourage participants to hit one of Memphis’ many city parks after the film, including the Grizzlies’ renovated courts at Southside Park (612 South Parkway E. Memphis 38106). The park was recently renovated with the help of TruGreen, The Works and the City of Memphis. The renovated park includes resurfaced basketball courts, new Grizzlies’ basketball backboards and new landscaping. Students attending nearby Orleans Elementary were even supplied with new basketballs to enjoy the new courts.

The Memphis Grizzlies Healthy Home Court initiative seeks to create a healthier Memphis and Mid-South by increasing access to healthy options, educating individuals about healthy life choices and inspiring individuals to make healthy decisions.  As part of Healthy Home Court, the Grizzlies encourage everyone to be active at least thirty minutes each day and adopt nutritious eating habits.
