City Edition Games

Memphis Soul

Rich in music history, Memphis is the birthplace of one of soul music’s great record labels. The 2020/21 Memphis Grizzlies City Edition Uniform celebrates the legacy of Stax Records, the life of Isaac Hayes and the fabric of Memphis.

Grit, Grind & Groove

Music has long been tied to the soul of Memphis.

And as new energy emerges on the court, this season’s Memphis Grizzlies City Edition Uniform is a throwback to the energy inspired by Stax Records and Isaac Hayes, who brought the Memphis sound to the world.

Highlighted by gold detailing, embossed design language and Grizzlies asymmetrical style, the uniform serves as a tribute to the sounds and artists that defined the deep-rooted heart and soul of Memphis music.

Memphis is displayed proudly and loudly across the chest in a typeface inspired by the Stax logo.

The ornate “MG” pattern, inspired by African Kente cloth, trimming the neckband, short and left side panel of the uniform represents Isaac’s flair for fashion and his voice for social activism.

The uniform’s black background and vertical stripes represent the groove – the vinyl records and vibe that Stax produced, delivering Memphis soul and music to the world.

The gold and turquoise colors throughout the uniform are pulled from Isaac Hayes’ 1972 Cadillac El Dorado, displayed today at the Stax Museum, and echo the gold records and hits pouring out of Stax during that era.

The vents on each side of the shorts accent the uniform with a Stax logo and Isaac inspired sunglasses.

Just above the jersey tag, Isaac’s name is emblemized to represent the mark he left on the design, in Memphis and on the music industry.
