Memphis, Tenn. – The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the team acquired the draft rights to forward David Roddy (the No. 23 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft) and wing Danny Green from the Philadelphia 76ers for guard De’Anthony Melton.

Roddy (6-5, 255) was named the 2021-22 Mountain West Player of the Year and USBWA District VIII Player of the Year after averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.16 steals and 1.06 blocks in 31 games while shooting a conference-best 57.1% from the field and 43.8% from 3-point range during his junior year at Colorado State. The 21-year-old Minneapolis native helped lead the Rams to its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2013 and the highest seed (No. 6) in program history.

Green (6-6, 220) has competed in 819 regular season games (709 starts) and has averaged 8.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 25.3 minutes while shooting 42.1% from the field and 39.9% from 3-point range in his 13-year NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers. The 34-year-old has won NBA championships with the Spurs (2014), Raptors (2019) and Lakers (2020) since he was selected with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft out of North Carolina.

Melton (6-2, 200) has appeared in 235 regular season games (55 starts) and has averaged 8.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 20.7 minutes while shooting 40.9% from the field and 36.1% from 3-point range in his four-year NBA career with the Phoenix Suns and Memphis Grizzlies. The 24-year-old, who was selected with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, averaged 9.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 20.9 minutes in three seasons with the Grizzlies.

Memphis, Tenn. – The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the team selected wing Vince Williams Jr. with the No. 47 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Williams Jr. (6-6, 205) was selected to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team after averaging 14.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.60 steals and 1.07 blocks in 32.5 minutes while shooting 47.7% from the field and 38.7% from 3-point range in his senior year at VCU.

The 21-year-old Toledo, Ohio, native averaged at least one steal per game in all four seasons with the Rams and shot 41.3% from 3-point range as a junior, which ranked fifth in the conference.

Grizzlies Trade 2024 Second Round Pick (via Los Angeles Lakers) to Spurs

Memphis, Tenn. – The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the team acquired the draft rights to Kennedy Chandler, the No. 38 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, from the San Antonio Spurs for a 2024 second round draft pick (via the Los Angeles Lakers).

Chandler (6-0, 171), a Memphis native, was selected to the 2021-22 All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman Team after averaging 13.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.18 steals in 30.8 minutes while shooting 46.4% from the field and 38.3% from 3-point range in 30.8 minutes for Tennessee. He led the Volunteers in scoring, assists and steals, ranked fifth in the SEC in assists and second in the conference in steals.

The 19-year-old guided the Volunteers to the 2022 SEC Tournament championship and became the second player in program history to be named SEC Tournament MVP (Allan Houston in 1991).

Memphis, Tenn. – The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the team acquired the draft rights to forward Jake LaRavia (luh-RAY-vee-uh), the No. 19 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, and a future second round draft pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2022 draft rights to center Walker Kessler (No. 22 overall) and guard TyTy Washington (No. 29 overall).

LaRavia (6-7, 235) was 2021-22 All-ACC Second Team selection after averaging 14.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.67 steals in 34.1 minutes while shooting 55.9% from the field and 38.4% from 3-point range in 33 games (all starts) during his junior year at Wake Forest. He led the Demon Deacons in rebounding and steals and ranked second in scoring, assists and blocks (0.97).

The 20-year-old Pasadena, Calif., native spent his first two collegiate seasons at Indiana State before transferring to Wake Forest.

Memphis, Tenn.— Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins visited Brewster Elementary School yesterday to announce his $24,330 donation to assist students throughout Shelby County through his Coach Jenkins’ Assists for Education initiative. For each of the past three seasons, Jenkins pledged to donate $10 per Grizzlies assist throughout the 2021-22 season to provide educational support for students in Memphis Shelby County Schools. A core tenet of the program is to provide everyday necessities such as school supplies, socks, clothing, etc., to students throughout the greater Memphis area.

“I’m glad we were able to come out to Brewster Elementary to celebrate the end of an unbelievable Grizzlies season and the third year of the ‘Coach Jenkins Assists for Education’ program,” Jenkins said. “To come here and see kids that are rising kindergarteners all the way through rising 5th graders and the commitment they are showing – coming to school for one month this summer to continue their learning process to get ready for the next grade level – is awesome.”

Coach Jenkins surprised students and teachers at Brewster Elementary during their STEM Learning Camp with Grizzlies Swag, sweet treats and classroom visits. In the program’s third season, the Grizzlies recorded 2,433 assists in 82 regular season games and 12 playoff games. Ja Morant, Tyus Jones and Steven Adams – team leaders in assists this season – combined for a total of 1,121 assists to lead the charge.

“To know where the necessities part of my initiative is coming into effect for the students and faculty, to help them come to an environment where they’re comfortable learning and growing is so special,” said Jenkins. “To see that the initiative is making a huge impact here, as well as throughout the community, is very powerful. But at the end of the day, just seeing the students and faculty with smiles on their faces gives you so much motivation and encouragement for all the great things that are happening in our school environment here in Memphis.”

Casting Call: Memphis Grizzlies to hold auditions for Live Entertainment teams for 2022-23 season

Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant was named to the 2021-22 Kia All-NBA Second Team, the NBA announced today. This marks the first career All-NBA selection for Morant, who becomes the third player in franchise history to receive All-NBA honors (Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph).

Morant (6-2 ½, 174) averaged 27.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.16 steals in 33.1 minutes in 57 appearances while shooting 49.3% from the field, 34.4% from 3-point range and 76.1% from the free throw line, helping the Grizzlies post the second-best record in the NBA during the regular season, tie their 2012-13 franchise record for winning percentage (.683) and capture the Southwest Division championship.

In his third NBA season, Morant was named the 2021-22 NBA Most Improved Player after setting career highs for scoring average, rebounds per game, steals per game, field goal percentage and 3-point percentage. Only four other players in NBA history have recorded higher averages for points, rebounds and assists and field goal percentage in a single season than Morant during the 2021-22 campaign: Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

The 22-year-old was voted by the fans as a starter for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game, his first All-Star appearance, and he joined Marc Gasol (2015) as the only players in franchise history to start an All-Star Game. Morant also became the first player in club history to win consecutive Western Conference Player of the Week Awards, earning the first two weekly honors of his NBA career on Jan. 3 and Jan. 10 in the midst of a franchise-record 11-game winning streak (Dec. 26-Jan. 13).

Morant registered a franchise-record six games with at least 40 points, including a single-game club-record and career-high 52 points on Feb. 28 vs. San Antonio. He also led all players with 16.6 points in the paint per game, becoming the first guard to pace the NBA in the category since data was first recorded in the 1996-97 season.

Morant helped guide the second-youngest roster in the league to its second consecutive NBA Playoffs appearance and the Grizzlies’ first trip to the Western Conference Semifinals since 2015. He averaged 27.1 points, 8.0 rebounds and 9.8 assists in 37.6 minutes in nine postseason games.

Selected by Memphis with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft following his sophomore year at Murray State, Morant was named the 2019-20 NBA Rookie of the Year and was selected to the 2019-20 All-Rookie First Team.

The All-NBA Teams were chosen by an international panel of media members. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. Voters were asked to select two guards, two forwards and one center for each team, choosing players at the position they play regularly.

The 2021-22 All-NBA First Team consists of Milwaukee Bucks forward/center Giannis Antetokounmpo, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum.

The other members of the 2021-22 All-NBA Second Team are Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan, Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid.

The 2021-22 All-NBA Third Team consists of Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James, Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul, Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam, Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young.
