SAO PAULO, BRAZIL., August 2, 2007 - The NBA and FIBA celebrated the official launch of BWB Americas 2007 in Sao Paulo with an opening press conference at Esporte Clube Pinheiros on Wednesday, Aug. 1. More than 67 members of the media including the country's top TV, print, Internet and radio outlets turned out to see Brazil's own Nene, Leandrinho, Varejao and Vinicius, as they came together with NBA colleagues, FIBA officials, the President of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation and the Head Coach of the Brazilian Men's National Team.
Immediately following the presser, all players, coaches, NBA/FIBA executives and local officials posed for NBA cameras and local media, and conducted interviews with Brazilian press.
As camp activities got underway, camp coaches were divided into separate teams for the BWB Skills Stations, where campers practiced essential basketball drills on the courts. NBA players and coaches led the different groups of campers and worked on key techniques for effective ball handling skills.
Later in the day, more than 60 Special Olympics athletes visited the BWB Americas headquarters at Esporte Clube Pinheiros to tip-off the camp's community outreach. The clinic gave guest athletes the opportunity to work on their passing, shooting and rebounding skills alongside NBA stars. Kids were thrilled to share the court with some of the league's best, and left the gym with happy faces and unforgettable memories.
The day ended with team scrimmages and many smiles across the board. Campers, NBA players/coaches and media alike are all looking forward to a wonderful third day at BWB Americas 2007.
