Originally an early entry candidate for the 2002 NBA Draft and briefly attended the 2002 NBA Pre-Draft Camp before withdrawing his name from consideration. Enrolled at Memphis after two seasons at Oxnard Junior College in California.

Career Highlights: Named to All-Conference USA First Team as a senior. Helped Tigers to first NCAA Tournament berth since 1996, finishing with a 23-7 record. As a freshman in junior college in 2000, named to the JUCO All-American team.

Senior (2002-03): Became eligible to play on December 28 after missing the first seven games of the season. Led team in scoring (16.7 ppg), rebounding (10.8 rpg, 11th in nation) and field goal percentage (60.2%, 13th in nation). Recorded 16 double-doubles in 23 games. Exploded for 34 points and 16 rebounds in win over Tulane. Notched 22 points and 16 rebounds in win over Houston. Tallied 27 points and 11 rebounds vs. Alabama-Birmingham. In NCAA Tournament first round loss to Arizona State, compiled 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Junior (2001-02): Averaged 9.8 points and 8.8 rebounds in his first season at Memphis. Scored in double figures 17 times, including five of the last six games as Memphis captured the NIT Championship. Had 14 double-digit rebounding games. Posted 11 double-doubles. Tallied 22 points and 17 rebounds against TCU. Had 14 points and 18 rebounds vs. Tennessee Tech. Totaled 14 points and 13 rebounds vs. Temple in the NIT Semifinals. Scored a season-high 23 points against Eastern Kentucky. Tallied 13 points and 14 rebounds vs. Tulane. Had 12 points and 11 rebounds at Charlotte.

Sophomore (2000-01): In his second season at Oxnard, averaged 15.3 points and 11.5 rebounds.

Freshman (1999-2000): At Oxnard JC, averaged 19.0 points and 13.3 rebounds and was named JUCO All-American, as well as All-Western State Conference and All-State. Team captured the Western State Conference Championship.

Strengths: Has incredible physical strength and very strong hands that help him hold onto rebounds. Developed more variety in his offensive arsenal as a senior. Steadily improved free throw shooting over second half of senior season.

Personal: Did not play basketball at Elkins High School in Texas. Prior to attending Oxnard College, earned his general equivalency degree and worked for a Houston-area electrical company installing fixtures and outlets.
