Miami Heat Team Overview

2011-12 record: 46-20

First place, Southeast Division

NBA Champion

Round: 1

#27 Arnett Moultrie (Traded to Philadelphia 76ers)

Draft Trade
• Heat acquire Pick 45, Justin Hamilton and a future first-round pick for Pick 27, Arnett Moultrie

Areas of Strength:
The swing positions are set, with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, and also power forward with Chris Bosh. The Big Three are still in their prime and the core of the club.

Needs Work:
Miami could use an upgrade at center and point guard, but only if they can adjust their skills to suit Wade and James. Most likely, because a rookie won't be the answer for a club built to win now, they'll need to look for a point guard through free agency, if that's possible. Steve Nash?

Two Stats That Matter:
49: That's how many games, out of 66, Wade played this season. More than Bosh and James, Wade is the player who could use a backup who can give him a breather prior to the playoffs and keep him healthy.

3.9: Joel Anthony averaged that many rebounds, and while it's nice that James can hit the glass better than most small forwards, the Heat could really use a big man who can compete with James, especially when it comes to rebounding in traffic.

The Way To Go:
It's almost unrealistic to think Miami will solve a need by choosing near the bottom of the first round of the draft. Even this season, when it appeared they uncovered a gem in rookie Norris Cole, he rapidly regressed once the All-Star break arrived and the stakes rose, to the point where he wasn't being used much at all when the playoffs began. The Heat should just grab the best available player at 27, maybe a shot-blocker, and hope for the best.
