Tomislav Zubcic

  • Full Name: Tomislav Zubcic
  • Position: Forward
  • Height/Weight: 7-0 / 210
  • Birthdate: January 7, 1990
  • Club: Cibona Zagreb (Croatia)
Toronto Raptors Round 2: Pick 56

* Very good athlete for his height
* Excellent size, length, mobility and agility
* Solid shooter with long range
* Outstanding ball handler for his position
* High level potential

* Not strong or intense enough
* Poor rebounder for his size
* Questionable effort on defense

NBA Projection:
Zubcic has a huge upside. He has the tools to become a great player at high level. An offensive weapon with room to improve at the defensive end, he needs consistency, maturity and toughness. Based on his skills and potential he could have been a first round draft pick but the mentality/competitiveness issues and his underachievement/underperformance hurt his chances. However, there’s always a chance a GM would remember what he showed during the Nike Hoop Summit 2009 and the u19 World Championship and use a late second round pick on him and hope he develops as he could.

2011-2012 season:
Last year he extended his contract with Cibona for 3 more seasons. In 2010-11 he finally saw quality minutes with Cibona in Adriatic League and the Euroleague, but he didn’t progress this  season. His Adriatic League averages decreased in scoring from 9.7 to 7.9 per game, and in rebounding from 5.1 to 3.6 per game.

Key statistics:
7.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.2 spg, 17.0 mpg, .507 FG, .316 3PtFG, .781 FT (Adriatic League)
5.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.3 spg, 19.8 mpg, .375 FG, .294 3PtFG, .571 FT (Eurocup)

Reminds me of:
A cross between Danilo Gallinari and Andrea Bargnani if he ever gets his game together.

What Insiders say:
Luka Bassin, International Scout and Coach
"I had a privilige to work with him as a 15-year-old when he came to Slovenia for one year. Swingman who can play positions from 1 to 4 with great basketball feeling and IQ.  Right now, however, I see him more as a very good Euroleague player than NBA kind of a player"

Carl Berman, NetScouts Basketball
"Zubcic has not developed the way we would like to see, even regressing a bit the past year. If he can harness his considerable skill set, he can be an effective NBA player. He needs to show more aggressiveness and determination but a 7’0 point forward is very interesting"
"Playing the small forward position, Zubcic sure looked like Andrei Kirilenko at certain moments. On the defensive end he guarded much smaller guards while on the offensive end he spotted up for wide open spots and often roamed around for offensive put-backs. He was definitely the best player on the floor"
