Bob Ociepka enters his first season as an assistant coach on Vinny Del Negro's staff in Los Angeles, however, the 2012-13 campaign marks a return for Ociepka, who previously served as an assistant coach with the Clippers under Bob Weiss during the 1993-94 season and under Bill Fitch from 1994-96. Ociepka has more than 30 years of coaching experience and has been in the NBA for 21 years, spending last season as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers. He came to Portland after serving two years as an assistant under Del Negro with the Chicago Bulls from 2008-10.
Prior to joining the Bulls, Ociepka spent two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He has also spent time as an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks. Ociepka began his NBA career with Detroit in the 1980s as a part-time volunteer scout while coaching high school basketball. Inducted into the Chicago Catholic League Hall of Fame on May 4, 2000, he was one of the Chicago area's most respected prep coaches at Gordon Tech and York High Schools.
Ociepka is the author of two books on the game of basketball, "Basketball Playbook: Plays from the Pros," published in 1995 and "Basketball Playbook 2: More Plays from the Pros," published in 2001. He played college basketball at Quincy College (Ill.). Ociepka has a daughter, Kate, who resides in Indianapolis. He and his wife, Andrea, were married in the summer of 2009.
