Summer League Recap Clippers vs. Lakers

The Clippers defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in their 2019 Summer League opener, 93-87, on Saturday at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The Clippers seized control early, finishing the first quarter with a 32-15 edge, and never looked back — leading the contest from start to finish. With efficient ball movement, the Clippers tallied 22 assists to the Lakers’ 16. They also enjoyed an edge at the free throw line shooting 22 of 27 (81.4%) to the Lakers’ 15 of 20 (75%).

Four Clippers notched double-figure scoring efforts on the night. 2019 first round pick Mfiondu Kabengele led the charge with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Amir Coffey added 17 points and shot three of five from three-point range. Nigel Hayes pitched in 13 points and four rebounds, while Cliff Alexander finished with 11 points and a block.

The Lakers, now 0-2 in the Las Vegas Summer League, were led by Joe Young and Devontae Cacok — each finished with 17 points. Cacok also grabbed eight rebounds. Nick Perkins added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Next up for the Clippers is a matchup against the Memphis Grizzles on Sunday, July 7, at 8:30 p.m. PT at Thomas & Mack Center. The game will air on ESPN2.
