The Clippers went through a lengthy practice Tuesday morning in Las Vegas on the campus of University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Their first practice of the 2014-15 season lasted three-plus hours and primarily focused on defense.

The team arrived in Las Vegas Monday evening and spent last night at a team dinner together at a nearby restaurant.

Check out some quotes from head coach Doc Rivers and some of the players from today’s practice.

Doc Rivers

“We practiced for a while and went over a lot of different stuff, mostly defensive. Overall, I thought the practice was good.”

“The guys were better than last year’s first practice because we knew a bunch of the stuff already. They struggled on a few things we have changed.”

“Our guys just came out to practice. We are looking forward and not behind. We are just playing basketball right now, we don’t have to stress about anything else.”

“We have an exhibition game here in Las Vegas on October 18thso it made sense for us to be here. This is a great facility here at UNLV and I think it is always a good idea to get away for training camp and bond as a team.”

“I want our defense to be better than it was last season, especially at the end of the season. At the end of the day, I want everyone to be on the same page.”

Chris Paul

“It was a great day, the first day of training camp is always an exciting day.”

“We are definitely ahead of where we were last year. Everything was brand new last season, it is great to have the familiarity here now.”

“Everyone is trying to get their legs back in basketball shape. We want to start to build our identity as a basketball team and become familiar with each other.”

Blake Griffin

“We know what we are here for and that is to focus on getting ourselves better and the team better. We had a great team dinner last night and were all excited about the first day of camp today.”

“I feel great, everything was good. The legs felt 100% and it is always good to get the first day of practice out of the way.”

“You forgot about the past when you are on the basketball court. It is all business for us now.”

Spencer Hawes

“It was a good practice, guys competed and we learned a bunch of stuff from the coaches.”

“Blake and Chris reached out to me when I signed here and I know a bunch of the guys from playing in the league so long. I am excited to be a part of this team and help us get to the next level.”

“I was familiar with a few things out there. I got to LA in early September and have been working out with all the guys for a few weeks now, so that helps the familiarity of everything.”
