Boston (November 19, 2009) - Boston Celtics star Ray Allen hosted a special charity event for his Ray of Hope Foundation tonight at the Lansdowne Pub.
The Lansdowne opened its doors to sports enthusiasts, Foundation supporters and basketball fans alike. As part of the festivities, Celtics Managing Partner and Co-owner Wyc Grousbeck and his band, French Lick, performed their well-known classic rock covers. Special surprise guests and other entertainment included a performance by the Elan Trotman band with Allen’s wife Shannon singing the lead vocals. The evening also featured a silent auction.
Hundreds of Bostonians attended the event and proceeds from the $20 minimum donation will be used to purchase Thanksgiving dinners for Boston Centers for Youth & Families. Guests were also encouraged to bring canned goods and new or gently-worn winter coats.
"The event was a fun and exciting experience for everyone and allowed us to raise awareness, money and support for families in need," said Allen. "I am thankful for all those who contributed their time and resources to its success, including Wyc Grousbeck, Patrick Lyons, The Lansdowne Pub, and fans across the region."
The Boston-based classic rock cover band French Lick features Grousbeck on the drums and includes vocalist Jordan Siegel and bassist Pete Galea, both formerly of the band Fooled By April. Lead guitarist Dave Andonian and Michael Tzannes on keys are both formerly of the Captain Miles Band. Since its creation in 2006, French Lick has played at several large charity events in and around the Boston area.
