Pregame – Kanter Cleared to Play Tonight vs. Dallas
BOSTON – Enes Kanter, smiling ear-to-ear, pumped his fist toward the sky after breaking away from a post-shootaround conversation with Celtics trainers Monday morning.
“They just cleared me,” Kanter revealed moments later. “So I am good to go tonight (against the Dallas Mavericks) – finally.”
Kanter had missed the previous two and a half weeks due to a knee injury that he suffered on Opening Night in Philadelphia. The veteran center had been chomping at the bit to return, but the team medical staff took a precautionary approach in bringing him back.
“They just wanted me to be 100 percent,” Kanter said. “They just didn't want me to be 95 percent, they wanted me to be 100 percent and feel comfortable. It's more of a confidence thing because when you come back from an injury and when you are playing 5-on-5, you are still thinking about it. You're still thinking about what's going to happen. I played 1-on-1 yesterday, two days ago I played 5-on-5. I feel pretty confident. We'll see how it feels tonight.”
Stevens said shortly ahead of tip-off that he had not been told whether the big man would face any minutes restriction upon his return. Kanter seemed optimistic in getting back on the court, though he understands that it could take a little bit of time to get his wind back.
“Let's see what happens tonight,” Kanter said. “Obviously, I've been trying to get into game shape during the last two weeks. We'll see how it feels tonight.”
