Celtics Acquire Center/Forward Mike Muscala

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Celtics have acquired center/forward Mike Muscala from the Oklahoma City Thunder, in exchange for forward Justin Jackson and two future second-round picks, the team announced today.

Muscala (6-11, 240) has appeared in 43 games (five starts) with Oklahoma City this season, recording averages of 6.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game. The 10-year NBA veteran is shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 39.4 percent from three-point range, and 79.5 percent from the free-throw line.

“We are excited to welcome Mike to Boston,” said Celtics President of Basketball Operations, Brad Stevens. “Mike is a great teammate who adds to our depth, and will be able to enhance several different lineup combinations with his size, skill, and competitiveness.”

In 475 career games (35 starts) with Atlanta (2013-18), Philadelphia (2018-19), Los Angeles Lakers (2018-19), and Oklahoma City (2019-23), Muscala holds career averages of 6.2 points on 45.6 percent shooting from the field, and 3.2 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game.

The Minnesota native, has appeared in 29 playoff games over five postseason appearances with Atlanta and Oklahoma City, averaging 3.0 points and 1.9 rebounds in 9.5 minutes per contest, while shooting 48.0 percent from the floor.

Muscala was originally drafted in the second round by the Dallas Mavericks with the 44 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. His rights were later acquired by the Atlanta Hawks via trade.
