Key Moment

The Detroit Pistons put on an offensive show Wednesday night that was both unexpected and unstoppable. Simply put, this group of Pistons had never been this hot.

Detroit set a new season high in field goal percentage by canning 60.3 percent of its shots in the game. That mark stands as its highest since April 6 of 2010 – nearly a decade ago.

Boston’s biggest misstep on this night was allowing a less-talented Pistons team to build confidence during the first quarter. Boston’s defense allowed Detroit to score 27 points during the opening period on 61.1 percent shooting from the field. Sekou Doumbouya and Derrick Rose led the way for Detroit with nine and eight points apiece, respectively.

That hot start from the Pistons set the table for the rest of the night. The floodgates had opened, Detroit’s players were filled with confidence, and their offense never relented from that moment on.

The Celtics themselves shot 49.4 percent from the field on this night, which is a great mark for them, but on this night, it was not nearly enough to overcome a Pistons team that just couldn’t miss.

Key Player

Jaylen Brown continued to make a push for his first All-Star appearance Wednesday night,. He tallied his sixth double-double of the season with 24 points and a team-best 12 rebounds against the Pistons.

Those six double-doubles are two more than he had totaled during his first three seasons combined. They are also tied with Enes Kanter for the most double-doubles on the Celtics this season.

Brown’s 24 points trailed only Gordon Hayward’s 25 for the game’s top mark. Brown’s shot profile was perfect, as he shot 6-for-8 from inside the paint and 4-for-8 from long distance. All 16 of his shot attempts were released from inside the paint or from beyond the 3-point arc.

Brown’s 12 boards were also well dispersed, as he grabbed eight at the defensive end and four at the offensive end. Those four offensive boards tied his career high, and his 12 overall rebounds tied his season high in that category.

To round out his box score, Brown contributed two assists during his team-high 37 minutes of playing time.
