Key Moment

The Boston Celtics overcame a 17-point deficit to force overtime in Dallas Monday night, but when it came down to crunch time, the C’s could not push past the Mavericks’ lights out OT effort.

Dallas shot 4-of-4 from deep during the extra frame, en route to a thrilling 118-113 win.

Chandler Parsons got his team’s juices flowing from beyond the arc, hitting a triple during the Mavs’ first OT possession.

Deron Williams followed that up with a pair of treys over a 31-second span. Then Dirk Nowitzki hit one of his trademark 3s from the top of the arc, which gave Dallas a 112-105 lead with 35 seconds remaining.

The Mavericks scored 20 points during the five-minute overtime period, though Boston’s offense had an impressive effort as well.

The C’s scored 15 points during overtime and also discovered a groove from deep. Marcus Smart hit a 3, and Kelly Olynyk added back-to-back triples of his own down the stretch, but Boston simply could not match the Mavs’ perfection from beyond the arc in the end.

Key Player

Down 17-2 midway through the first quarter, coach Brad Stevens turned to his bench for an answer to the Celtics’ early offensive woes.

The solution came in the form of Kelly Olynyk.

The 7-footer entered the game and gave Boston an immediate offensive boost by enabling it to space the floor better.

Olynyk hit three 3-pointers during Boston’s comeback effort and then made two more during overtime to keep the C's alive. He hit 5-of-6 from 3-point range and finished with 17 points.

KO’s most impressive stat, however, was in the plus/minus column. He notched an astonishing plus-27, making him the only Celtic to finish with a positive rating.

That is the definition of an X-factor right there.
