BOSTON – Two new faces on the Boston Celtics roster made their presence known on Tuesday afternoon at Rosie’s Place, a safe haven for poor and homeless women. With thousands of homeless Bostonians this holiday season, Courtney Lee and Jared Sullinger decided that they wanted to help out in the community. They did so by helping to prepare and serve nutritious dinners meal to more than 100 guests of Rosie’s Place.
As the women and children entered the dining room of Rosie’s Place for soup before dinner, Lee and Sullinger mingled with the guests, signing autographs and taking pictures. The women and children could not contain their excitement because the Celtics’ visit was kept as a surprise to them. The entire group lined up and eagerly awaited their turn to meet the players and express their gratitude for volunteering their time to help serve a meal.
“The women and children were great,” said Lee. “They were not shy at all. One woman even planted a kiss on our cheeks. It’s a pleasure to meet women and children who really deserve to have a great meal.”
After a short time signing autographs and taking pictures, it was time for dinner. Lee and Sullinger donned aprons and caps as they grabbed some plates. Making sure they visited every table, the players not only ensured each person got a meal, but they were also able to talk with further with those they were serving.
“We all know the importance of having enough nutritious food,” Sullinger stated. “But when we can come by and have fun along with it, that is a very special experience for us. We want to thank Rosie’s Place for not only allowing us to come here today, but also for constantly providing a meal for those who need it on a daily basis.”
Once everyone had a meal, Lee and Sullinger stuck around to thank volunteers and continue to mingle with the women and children. Posing for photos and joking with the families, the players couldn’t bring themselves to leave. The time finally arrived for Lee and Sullinger to take off and they received a loud applause from guests as they exited.
“It is important to support women and families no matter where we are,” stated Lee. “Rosie’s Place does a great job and allows people like us to come in and make a real difference, and for that we are grateful.”
