Last year, #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes raised more than $75,000 for the program and has raised more than $200,000 to date. The campaign is part of Sun Life’s growing support of the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program nationally, which Sun Life helped launch in Kansas City, Mo., and Boston, Mass., in 2014. Since the program’s launch, over 54,000 people have participated at nearly 1,700 YMCAs across the country. YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes by providing participants the tools, resources, support and education necessary to change their lifestyles, before costly medical bills and medications become a daily reality. The year-long program consists of 16, one-hour weekly classroom sessions followed by eight monthly sessions. A trained Y Lifestyle Coach teaches participants strategies for healthy living, physical activity and other lifestyle changes. Last year, Sun Life pledged $35,000 to support the addition of bilingual coaches among the local branches for the YMCA of Greater Boston's Diabetes Prevention Programs.
