Irving Announced As Participant For 2014 Foot Locker Three-Point Contest
REIGNING THREE-POINT CONTEST CHAMPION TO DEFEND TITLE IN NEW ORLEANS
CLEVELAND, OH - Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving has been named as a participant in the 2014 Foot Locker Three-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend, it was announced tonight by the NBA.
Irving won last year’s Foot Locker Three-Point Contest in Houston, joining Mark Price (1993 and ’94) as the only Cavs players to win the event. Irving had a score of 18 in the first round. He made 17 of his first 18 shots en route to a score of 23 in the final round to defeat San Antonio’s Matt Bonner for the title.
In 46 games this season, Irving has averages of 21.4 points (5th in East), 3.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists (8th in East) and 1.3 steals in 35.2 minutes per game. He owns the highest scoring average among Eastern Conference point guards (second among all NBA point guards) and is one of only three players in the NBA with averages of at least 21.0 points and 6.0 assists per game in 2013-14 (Stephen Curry and LeBron James, min. 30 games). Irving is shooting .354 (81-229) from beyond the arc this season. He has 14 games of at least three triples made and seven contests of at least four made shots from deep. Since entering the NBA in 2011-12, Irving holds a career three-point percentage of .381.
During All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, Irving will also be participating in the 2014 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, February 16. He was voted as a starter to the 2014 Eastern Conference All-Star team by the fans.
The Foot Locker Three-Point Contest will take place during All-Star Saturday night on Feb. 15 in New Orleans, LA. The other participants are Orlando’s Arron Afflalo, Brooklyn’s Joe Johnson, Washington’s Bradley Beal, San Antonio’s Marco Belinelli, Golden State’s Stephen Curry, Portland’s Damian Lillard and Minnesota’s Kevin Love.
