Cavaliers and Cedi Osman Sign Multi-Year Contract Extension

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers and forward Cedi Osman have agreed to a new multi-year contract extension, Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

“Cedi epitomizes everything it means to be a Cavalier and we’re excited to sign him to this extension,” said Altman. “His work ethic and commitment to this organization and community are qualities we admire in a player. Cedi has also demonstrated daily his desire to expand his overall skill-set and we look forward to seeing his continued growth and development.”

Osman (6-7, 230) appeared in 76 games (75 starts) with the Cavaliers last season, averaging career highs of 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 32.2 minutes per contest. He increased his scoring average from 2017-18 to 2018-19 by 9.1 points (3.9 to 13.0), the third-highest scoring increase in the NBA last season behind only Pascal Siakam (+9.6) and Derrick Rose (+9.6)(minimum 150 FGA in both seasons). In addition, Osman posted three double-doubles and scored in double-digits on 52 occasions, including 20 points or more 13 times.

Osman also represented the Cavaliers at 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend in Charlotte as a member of the World Team for the MTN DEW ICE Rising Stars. He joined 18 other Cavaliers players who previously competed in the Rising Stars since its inception in 1994 and was the first Cavalier to appear in the event since Matthew Dellavedova played with the World Team in 2015.

A native of Ohrid, Macedonia, Osman was originally selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 31st overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft before having his draft rights acquired by the Cavaliers that night, and signed a contract with Cleveland on July 18, 2017. The third-year forward has spent his entire NBA career with the Cavs and owns career averages of 9.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per game over 138 career contests (88 starts).

Prior to his NBA career, Osman played for Anadolu Efes in Turkey (2011-2017), where he earned BSL All-Star honors in each of his last three seasons (2015-17) while helping Anadolu Efes win the 2015 Turkish Cup and 2015 Turkish Supercup. Osman has also been a member of the Turkish senior national team since 2014. In the 2019 FIBA World Cup last month, he averaged a team-high 20.4 points per game for Turkey, which ranked sixth among all players in the tournament.
