Donovan Mitchell was selected with the 13th overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft. He was originally selected by the Denver Nuggets and was sent to the Jazz in a draft night deal for Trey Lyles and Tyler Lydon.

Mitchell played two seasons at Louisville, helping the Cardinals reach the NCAA Tournament in the 2016-17 season. He averaged 15.6PPG, 4.9RPG, and 2.8APG in his final collegiate season.

Mitchell was named to the 2017-18 NBA All-Rookie Team and was named an NBA All-Star the last three seasons.

During the 2020-21 season, the Jazz had the NBA’s best record at 52-20, and Mitchell led the team in scoring, averaging 26.4PPG to go with 5.2APG as well.

In the 2020 playoffs in the Bubble, Mitchell erupted in a seven game series in Round One, averaging 36 points per on 53 percent shooting and nearly 52 percent shooting from behind the arc. In Game 1, he poured in 57, followed up by a 51 points outing in Game 4.

Mitchell is now reunited with Ricky Rubio in Cleveland. The two were together in Utah during Mitchell’s rookies season in 2017-18. Mitchell made the All-Rookie Team and was runner-up for Rookie of the Year.

Mitchell has averaged 20 or more points per game in each of his first five seasons, the first guard to do that since Allen Iverson.

Mitchell was the champion of the 2018 Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Last season, Mitchell averaged a career best 5.3 assists per game in the regular season and handed out 5.7 per game in the playoffs.

Mitchell got the “Spida” nickname from a teammate’s father before his NBA days, based on Mitchell’s long arms (he has a 6’10” wingspan) and his ability to get steals.
