Brendon Yu Elevated to Director of Scouting for the Cavaliers and Liron Fanan to General Manager of the Cleveland Charge

Fanan Becomes The Fourth Woman GM In NBA G League History.

CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman announced today that Brendon Yu and Liron Fanan have been elevated into new roles within the organization effective immediately, as Yu moves into the position as Director of Scouting for the Cleveland Cavaliers, while Fanan takes over as General Manager for the Charge.

Yu has been a part of the Cavaliers organization for nine seasons, including the last four as General Manager of the Charge (2019-2023), with Director of College Scouting for the Cavaliers added to his title in 2022-23. In addition, Yu spent two seasons as the Director of G League Operations and Basketball Operations, Special Projects. He began his tenure with the Cavaliers as the basketball operations seasonal assistant in 2014-15. As Director of Scouting, Yu will lead the talent evaluation of collegiate and professional athletes and continue to work closely with Altman and Cavaliers General Manager Mike Gansey overseeing personnel for the Cavaliers, including international and NBA G League players. 

Under Yu’s leadership of the Charge, the team had 16 NBA Call Ups, including current Cavaliers guard Sam Merrill. Last season, the Charge went 30-20 and clinched a spot in the 2023 NBA G league Playoffs for the first time since 2016-17. Yu, an Indianapolis native, earned his Bachelors of Science in Finance, with a minor is Psychology from Indiana University in 2014. He served as a student manager under Tom Crean and the Hoosier staff, where he was a part of a Big Ten Championship and two Sweet Sixteen appearances. 

With her promotion, Fanan becomes the first woman in Charge franchise history to be named general manager and just the fourth in the NBA G League, joining Tori Miller (College Park Skyhawks), Amber Nichols (Capital City Go-Go) and Anjali Ranadivé (Stockton Kings). 

Fanan joined the organization prior to the 2018-19 season as the Director of G League Player Development, where she worked with players off the court initiatives through league and team programming. Over the previous three seasons, she served as Assistant General Manager under Yu.  She was instrumental in assisting with the roster construction of the Charge, as well as continuing her role overseeing player development initiatives and NBA G League scouting. 

Prior to joining the organization, Fanan co-founded and managed her own agency, 2Talent Sports Management, where she built a roster of athletes to assist their needs through player contracts, individual business interests and community engagement. Her experience also includes an Assistant General Manager role with Maccabi Tel Aviv of the EuroLeague (2005 to 2009), as well as NBA Summer League, NBA Basketball Without Borders and the NBA’s Global Camp in Italy.
