Cavs Partner with Gray Television to Broadcast Select Games for Free Across Ohio

New deal will include 5 select games and will more than double the Cavs’ current broadcasting area

Cleveland, OH - The Cleveland Cavaliers and Gray Television announced a joint agreement to offer over-the-air distribution of five upcoming Cavs games. The move would significantly expand the Cavs’ broadcast area and give up to 4.9 million households the ability to cheer on the team free of cost. The games will be available on WUAB Channel 43 across Northeast Ohio and select markets across the state. The games include:

  • 3/8 vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
  • 3/20 vs. Miami Heat
  • 3/29 vs. Philadelphia 76ers
  • 4/6 at Los Angeles Lakers (3:30 EST start time)
  • 4/7 at Los Angeles Clippers (3:30 EST start time)

“We are constantly evaluating every available opportunity to create the greatest experience for all fans of Cavaliers Basketball. Given the current, dynamic media landscape, we have prioritized how we can expand our audience in every way possible,” said Nic Barlage, Cleveland Cavaliers, Rock Entertainment Group, and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse CEO. “This partnership with Gray allows us to test out a new model of distribution that has the potential to reach more of our fans across our region.”

The Cavs are currently on a historic run that includes standing 2nd in the Eastern Conference and owning the best record in the NBA since December 16th at 22-5 (.815). The Cavs have also won 17 of their last 19 games since January 3rd. With a 35-17 overall record on the season, the Cavs are tied for their sixth-best mark through 52 games in franchise history.

"We are excited to announce that all fans of the Cavaliers will be able to watch five games for free on broadcast television. This is a great opportunity for WUAB 43 the CW and Gray Television to collaborate with the Cavs and give their devoted fans complete access to the games no matter how they watch TV," said Matt Moran, Avon resident, Cavs fan, and Senior Managing Vice President for Gray.

These five games against exciting opponents, now offered through Gray, provide a unique chance for fans to experience Cavs basketball during the season's most important stretch. They were previously made available for cable distribution as part of the NBA’s agreement with Diamond Sports Group, the owner of Bally Sports Ohio. These select games will no longer be streaming on the Bally Sports app or via Bally Sports Ohio.

The Cavs broadcasting team will remain the same for these games. John Michael will continue to call play-by-play for all Cavs games on Bally Sports Ohio and the games distributed over-the-air through Gray, accompanied by analysts Austin Carr and Brad Daugherty. Serena Winters and Cayleigh Griffin will remain as sideline reporter and co-host of Cavaliers Live, respectively.
